Sterling proved to be a wonderful big sister with her gentle, caring ways toward baby Golden. But it wasn’t always like that—at first, she struggled with the idea of sharing her parents’ love. She wasn’t thrilled about having a sibling. That all changed when Patrick Mahomes gave his 4-year-old daughter a heartfelt piece of advice—one that completely shifted Sterling’s perspective.

Sterling Skye Mahomes, the adorable daughter of NFL star Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes, has recently captured hearts across social media—not just for her curly hair and playful spirit, but for the way she’s blossomed into a loving big sister to her baby brother, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, affectionately nicknamed Golden.

When Brittany and Patrick first told Sterling she was going to be a big sister, the then-3-year-old didn’t exactly jump for joy. In fact, she was confused and, at times, frustrated. After all, she had been the center of her parents’ universe since birth. Suddenly, everything was about a “new baby.” There were books about babies, talk about babies, and gifts for babies. Her parents, though still attentive and loving, were often busy preparing for the arrival of someone Sterling had never met.
“She didn’t love the idea at first,” Brittany admitted in a recent interview. “There were a few tantrums, a lot of questions like, ‘Why does the baby need that?’ or ‘Do I have to share my toys?’ She’s a sensitive soul, and she just felt… unsure.”

The shift became more noticeable once Golden was born. Patrick and Brittany were balancing sleepless nights, bottle feedings, and diaper changes while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for Sterling. But the little girl often stood back, watching from a distance. She wasn’t angry, just unsure how she fit into this new family dynamic.
That’s when Patrick Mahomes stepped in with a heart-to-heart that changed everything.
One quiet afternoon, Patrick took Sterling outside to their backyard, where she loved to chase bubbles and kick around a mini football. He sat down beside her and said, “You know, when I was younger, I had to learn to share too. I had to learn that love isn’t something that gets smaller when more people come into your life. It grows bigger.”
Sterling looked up, her brows furrowed in concentration.
He continued, “Mommy and I love you just as much as we always have. And now, you get to be the first person your baby brother learns from. You’re not losing anything, sweet girl—you’re gaining someone who will always look up to you.”
That message, so simple yet powerful, seemed to click.
From that day forward, Sterling began approaching her little brother with curiosity rather than resistance. Slowly, her uncertainty melted into affection. She started helping her mom by handing over pacifiers, singing lullabies in her soft, high-pitched voice, and even offering to help during bath time.
“It was like a switch flipped,” Brittany shared. “She went from distant to totally invested. She tells people now, ‘I’m Golden’s big sister. I help take care of him.’ She’s so proud of that role.”
Now, as Sterling turns four, she’s fully stepped into her role as a gentle, nurturing big sister. Family videos show her gently rubbing Golden’s back during nap time, reading him board books, and making him giggle with her silly dances. The two have even started developing their own little language—giggly babbles and shared smiles only siblings can understand.
Patrick’s moment of fatherly wisdom not only reassured his daughter of her place in their growing family but helped spark a bond between siblings that will last a lifetime.
“She’s going to be an amazing leader, just like her dad,” Brittany said with a smile. “And he’s already her biggest fan.”
Sometimes, it only takes one moment, one conversation, to help a child see that love doesn’t divide—it multiplies.
