“The disrespect is wild”: Fans rage over WNBA’s fumble with Caitlin Clark’s spelling mistake in All-WNBA post.

Caitlin Clark was recently selected to the All-WNBA first team following an impressive 2024 campaign where she broke multiple league and franchise records. The league announcement, however, took some flak after misspelling Clark’s name. “Cailtin” was used on the rookie’s name, prompting the league to correct the error.

Many basketball fans refused to let the mistake slide, reacting on X, formerly Twitter.

One fan ranted:

“Why am I not surprised?! They have been pretty useless this year protecting her. She got physically beaten all season during her games. … The WNBA did not use her image on the promotional post about the playoffs. The disrespect is wild!! She is going to be the face of the WNBA soon!”

Another fan blasted the WNBA:

“It’s actually not hard to believe at this point. Remember CC’s highlight video attached to Sabrina’s player of the week announcement.”

One fan commented:

“Forgive it haha”

Another fan added:

“Better than ignoring it”

“I died laughing…’cAiLtIn'” one fan added.

“The wnba knew who the first team was for ages but still they put out a graphic that spells Caitlin’s name wrong.” another fan said.

Most expected Caitlin Clark to make the first-team All-WNBA selection. She was a near-unanimous winner of the Rookie of the Year award and finished fourth in the MVP voting. After the long-awaited announcement, many promptly saw how the league misspelled her name and reacted.

Clark became the first rookie to earn an All-WNBA first-team slot since Candace Parker in 2008. Besides the Fever star and Parker, only three rookies in league history earned that distinction. Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings and Diana Taurasi accomplished the same feat in their first years as pro.

Caitlin Clark’s stats backed up the All-WNBA first team selection

Caitlin Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, the best in the WNBA, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. She led the Indiana Fever to a 20-20 record and the No. 6 seed in the playoffs, the team’s first postseason appearance since 2016.

Clark’s 322 assists broke the single-season record of 316 dimes set by Alyssa Thomas in 2023. The rookie’s passing wasn’t the only threat she offered on the floor. Indiana’s court general also unloaded 122 3-pointers, the second-best mark in a single season in the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark generated 38.3 points per game or 45.2% of the Indiana Fever offense last season, the best in the WNBA. Only NBA superstar Luka Doncic’s 57.4 PPG and 48.6% total offense are better than the rookie’s output.
