Caitlin Clark Applauds Angel Reese’s ‘Tremendous Year’ After the Chicago Rookie Announces a Season-Ending Injury

After a record-breaking start to her WNBA career, Angel Reese is out for the rest of the season.
Over the weekend the rebound queen of the Chicago Sky announced that she had sustained a season-ending injury to her wrist, later sharing on TikTok that she’s electing to have surgery to prevent further issues. “What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol,” she initially wrote on Instagram. “Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so.”
While Reese says she is “filled with emotions,” she expressed her excitement to cheer on her team as they continue to fight for a spot in the playoffs—and eventually join the new Unrivaled league in the offseason. “Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break,” she added. “God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.”
Many fellow players and professional athletes took to Reese’s comments section to wish the rookie well. Las Vegas Aces player and two-time Olympic gold medalist A’ja Wilson left two white heart emojis, while tennis star Coco Gauff replied, “So proud of you!!!”
Fellow WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark—who is often positioned as Reese’s rival by fans and commentators—spoke highly of the LSU alum during a press conference. “It’s definitely sad whenever you see anyone go down with an injury, especially people that you came into this league with—one was Cameron [Brink], one was Angel—You wanna see her finish out this year,” the Indiana Fever player told reporters. “Obviously, she’s had a historic year, and she’s done some incredible things.”
Caitlin Clark continued, “For me, getting to play against her—her motor is up there, if not the best in the league. She just doesn’t stop working. So congratulations to her, I think she had a tremendous year and I thought she came in the league and really did what she’s done well her entire career, as long as I’ve known her.”
If you’re itching for more from Angel Reese, she will surely be active on the sidelines for the rest of the Chicago Sky’s season, as well as on her new podcast, Unapologetically Angel.
