Angel Reese’s Latest Flex Turns Into Nightmare as WNBA Fans Reminds Chicago Star of Her Salary Rant
“You don’t have to work anymore.” When Angel Reese said this to her mother, it really hit home! It is every child’s dream to be able to retire their parents, to pay off their loans and dues, to support them through the later years of their lives. To the WNBA and Unrivaled star, it meant even more. Reese has been relying on her mother for her entire life, honoring her by wearing #10 every day. So, for the six-foot-three center to do this at the tender age of 22? It’s a big deal!
However, it wasn’t easy for the young phenom. While she hit the ground running in the WNBA, it simply wasn’t possible for Reese to pay off her mother’s mortgage with her salary alone. For reference, the Chicago Sky star made $73,439 in her rookie year, and is expected to earn more than $300K during her first contract.
Not only that, but she went on an infamous rant in which she complained about the WNBA salaries. We all know that there’s room for improvement in that aspect, but Angel Reese took it a step further by providing her own example. The LSU alum is paying about $8000 a month for her apartment, which is way beyond what she’s earning through the game.

The majority of her money comes from off-court brand deals and sponsorships. For example, she recently partnered up with McDonalds to bring an Angel Reese Special to life! This, alongside brand deals with Reebok and other companies, makes up the bulk of her income.
However, the WNBA rookie took to social media to give herself a pat on the back for retiring her mother, and for achieving a special milestone in her life. But the WNBA community didn’t respond well to the flex on her profile. Let’s find out exactly what they were saying.
Fans troll Angel Reese for her salary rants after she flexed on X
Okay, so we all remember when Angel Reese talked about her WNBA salary, right? Her rookie contract had a stunningly low base, and the incentives weren’t great either. In an Instagram Live video a while ago, the Chicago Sky star got candid about how she couldn’t manage to pay off her bills with her salary alone. “I’m living beyond my means,” she said. “That WNBA check don’t pay a thing.”
Flash forward to now, it seems like she’s doing pretty well for herself after all! The WNBA star took to X to announce that she bought her own home at just 22 years of age. However, social media had a small meltdown after her announcement.
Fans rallied together to call out the six-foot-three W superstar. After hearing rants about how the WNBA salary doesn’t sustain the rookies, and how they might sit out a season, people weren’t exactly thrilled for Reese. “Thought you said you weren’t getting paid enough lol.” One fan said, and it was a very common sentiment. “On 70k a year?” Another user asked, mocking the Chicago Sky player for her IG Live.
Salary negotiations are underway currently with the CBA and the WNBA. We’re expecting major contract hikes after this coming season, which is also the reason many established superstars have only agreed to one-year deals. There were calls for a boycott, and some other radical ideas, which are now backfiring on Angel Reese’s moment of pride.
“So you’re saying you’ve been paid well?” A user on X questioned, replying to her original tweet, while another was through with asking questions. “Looks like someone is getting paid more than enough.” One fan even went so far as to criticize her game while trolling her for the amount of success she has had. “Missing layups getting paid.”
Look, there’s no doubt that Angel Reese is a polarizing figure. The Bayou Barbie is authentic, and stays true to herself. What she has accomplished is no small feat. However, fans are known to be fickle and they don’t let things go too easy. One thing that we can’t wait to see, however, is for WNBA players to get paid the wages that they deserve.
