WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A 12-year-old Central Texas boy whose life was forever changed after a near-fatal brain bleed in 2022 fulfilled a lifelong dream of meeting his favorite athlete of Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It was a moment his mom, Jill, says her son dreamed of both before and after his life-altering incident.
“He grew up obsessively watching every game he played on TV,” Colter’s mom, Jill said. “Mahomes has always been his favorite athlete.”

Colter was a healthy 8-year-old when he unexpectedly experienced a brain bleed while on a family vacation over Spring Break three years ago.
Life has never been the same for him as he’s had to relearn just about everything.
While his speech has greatly improved, it’s still a challenge and so is walking.
What hasn’t changed for Colter, however, is his love for Mahomes.
Colter’s parents, Jill and Jason, are both Tech graduates and Colter came by his love of the Red Raiders naturally.
“He’s a lifelong Texas Tech fan,” Jill said. “We are alumni so that might be forced in some way, but he just loves Texas Tech. He loves Mahomes. He loves the Chiefs.”
It was so much of a dream for the young boy to meet Mahomes, his parents applied through the “Make-A-Wish-Foundation” with the wish being for Colter to meet the quarterback.
They never heard back.
When the Clements’ Bosqueville neighbor Nancy Lacy heard Mahomes was coming to town, she went to work.

“I was able to make a few phone calls to ask for help and the THSHF was so gracious to answer that call,” Lacy said. “It truly was a community effort and Patrick Mahomes was so gracious.”
Jill said the family was given tickets to the press conference at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame followed by tickets to the actual induction at the Hurd Welcome Center on the Baylor campus.
The family didn’t know the red-carpet treatment that awaited them.
“We showed up to the event just expecting to have a seat in the back and they escorted us right to the front, front and center right in front of Patrick Mahomes,” Jill said. “Right when we sat down, to our shock and surprise, Patrick came right out and introduced himself to Colter and our family and I was just in absolute tears.”
The family shared Colter’s story with Mahomes who remarked that Colter “was an inspiration,” Jill recalled.
The QB posed for a picture with the family and signed a jersey and ball for Colter.
“It was just the opportunity of a lifetime for Colter,” Jill said. “He loved it.”
The young boy had a recent setback when a brainstem tumor that was discovered during a surgery in 2023 was found to be growing.

Colter also met inductee RG3 on Saturday and had a helmet signed.
“That’s his second favorite team,” Jill smiled.
Jill said the family is forever thankful for those who continue to remember their family three years into their brain battle.
“It’s just so heartwarming and reassuring to know that we have friends and family and amazing loving neighbors that come to support us and think of Colter and think of our family especially during times like,” Jill said. “Just to lift our spirits and let us know that we are going to make it and we’ll make it to the other side.”
