Caitlin returned to Teresa, who was still sitting on the cold pavement, her hands clutching the edges of her cardboard sign. “Help is on the way,” Caitlin assured her. “But first, let’s get you something warm to eat.” She flagged down a food vendor nearby and bought Teresa a steaming bowl of soup and a sandwich.
Kneeling back down, Caitlin handed the food to her. “Here you go. Take your time,” she said. Teresa accepted the food with trembling hands, her voice barely audible as she said, “Thank you.”
