Caitlin Clark bursts with joy after a great play at Iowa homecoming
Recently, some sad news hit the whole team. Someone who played a very important role in inspiring and supporting them has said goodbye forever. Twelve-year-old Krysty Bujakowska, had been admitted to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital for the past two years. The girl from Coralville was battling an aggressive bone cancer, specifically osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer in her leg.
She was a big inspiration for the whole team
Krysty was the team’s ‘Kid Captain,’ serving as a source of motivation and a symbol of strength to fight for. The whole team looked up to her and admired her courage during her difficult journey. She appeared as honorary Kid Captain during the outdoor Iowa Women’s Basketball game on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Kinnick Stadium.
Former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar and now WNBA Rookie of the Year, Caitlin Clark, expressed her condolences for Bujakowska and her family. She reposted an Instagram story by the Iowa women’s basketball team, which honored the little girl with the following message:
“Our Kid Captain. We are forever grateful you were a part of our team. They say we changed the game, but the truth is, you changed us. Rest in peace, sweet Krysty. We love you.”
