Following the appointment of Tyler Marsh as the Sky’s new head coach, Angel Reese wants her team to swoop for another of the Las Vegas Aces’ biggest stars

Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky isn’t happy with just snagging the Las Vegas Aces’ assistant coach – she’s also eyeing up one of their star players.

The Sky recently welcomed Tyler Marsh as their new head coach after parting ways with Teresa Weatherspoon, a move that initially upset Reese. However, she now views Marsh’s hiring as a positive shift for the team.

After posting a celebratory ‘W’ on social media regarding Marsh joining the Sky, Aces’ point guard Sydney Colson playfully accused Reese of being disrespectful. She suggested that the Las Vegas team was still mourning the departure of their beloved assistant.

Reese remained unsympathetic, however, and boldly declared that the Aces’ reign as one of the WNBA’s top teams was over. She even made a sassy suggestion for Colson to switch sides.

“Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho [sic] sister girl unless you want to come join this side too,” Reese wrote on X. The Sky are now hopeful that Marsh will steer them in the right direction, regardless of whether Colson accepts Reese’s audacious invitation.

Chicago’s hopes for a stellar 2024 WNBA season took a nosedive after a promising start as they crumbled in the crucial final games. The team’s fortunes turned sour particularly after Reese was sidelined with a wrist injury that ended her season. The Sky’s dreams fizzled out, leaving them with a disappointing 13-27 record, falling short of their previous year’s performance by four games. In response to the lacklustre finish, Chicago’s management decided to part ways with Weatherspoon.

Reese expressed her sorrow over her coach’s departure, saying she was “heartbroken”. Yet, there’s a sense of optimism as Marsh prepares to step in and forge a new bond with the young star at the Sky.

Marsh, who was part of the Aces’ coaching staff during their consecutive WNBA championship wins in 2022 and 2023, is highly regarded for his ability to nurture talent. His reputation for developing players is well-known, and with a past compliment he once paid Reese during her debut season, expectations are high that he will elevate her game even further.

Back in January, when the star forward was shining for LSU, Marsh took to social media to praise her performance: “Drastic difference in AR footwork when patient vs. when rushed. Been on point today. Keep feeding her,” he wrote. “Future of the Sky is in good hands. Young, tough and don’t give af about anybody’s opinions other than their own. Gotta respect it.”

While the prospects for Reese are undoubtedly promising, she won’t easily get over the loss of Weatherspoon. Following the coach’s departure, Reese poured out her feelings in a heartfelt tribute, attributing her swift ascent in the sport to her former mentor.

“I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me at such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you,” she said.

“You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year and when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever.”
