The Chiefs may be 9-0, but it took one of the most clutch plays of the 2024 NFL season to get there.

With just seconds remaining in Sunday’s matchup against the Broncos, Kansas City looked like it was heading for its first loss of the season as kicker Wil Lutz lined up a 35-yard field goal that would’ve won it for Denver.

Instead, linebacker Leo Chenal made a massive play, getting his hand in front of Lutz’s kick to deflect the ball and keep the Chiefs’ undefeated season alive.

After his game-sealing play, Chenal said he finally worked up the courage to ask one of the team’s stars for a game-worn jersey: tight end Travis Kelce.

Chenal’s play on the blocked field goal immediately sent Arrowhead Stadium into a frenzy.

With the Chiefs 9-0, the team reached a new peak in the 2024 season, even as the two-time defending champions and heavy favorite to win another Super Bowl in February. Having just made one of the plays of his life, Chenal found it to be a good opportunity to ask Kelce for his game-worn jersey.

Per The Athletic, Chenal had been wanting Kelce’s jersey since his rookie season in 2022, and he asked him for it after Sunday’s game.

“I’ve been waiting for the right time,” Chenal said in the story. “I felt I earned it.”

Chenal got his wish, commemorating a special moment in what’s been another historic season for Kansas City. After head coach Andy Reid’s postgame remarks to his team Sunday, the linebacker also got to lead the team’s huddle.

“Leo, I’ll treat you to a cheeseburger,” Reid said.
