Chiefs Star Shuts Down Excuses After Patrick Mahomes’ Costed Chiefs Heavy Against Bills
Multiple ifs and buts and passing around since the Chiefs‘ first loss ended their winning streak! As the hopes for a perfect season dashed on November 17, 2024, falling to the Buffalo Bills 30-21 in Week 11, it seems that everyone is trying to work their way around the loopholes. Patrick Mahomes had a mixed outing and also took to defend rookie Xavier Worthy for the missed opportunity. But, now, one of the Chiefs’ stars has come forth to put an end to such excuses. Their third consecutive Super Bowl title is at stake after all.
Chiefs’ defensive end, Charles Omenihu, who was ruled out ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Bills, took to post on his Twitter account, “All the “if” this if that is so funny 😂 when you built a certain way ain’t no if’s 😭.” Omenihu, who has entered his second season with the Chiefs this year, apparently did not approve of such kind of missed execution. Perhaps hinting at Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes took to finish 23-of-33 for 196 yards, along with two touchdowns, and two interceptions. While his opening-drive interception had raised the expectations of the fans. In the second quarter, the throw to rookie receiver Xavier Worthy seemingly broke the rhythm.
While Worthy had tallied four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in quarter one, the missed sideline catch turned out to be quite disappointing. Instead of a walk-in touchdown, Worthy was wide open, failing to secure both feet inbounds.
However, Mahomes took full responsibility for the situation, saying, “If I throw it in bounds, it’s going to be a walk-in touchdown. I just have to be better there.” And, seemingly, Charles Omenihu is not happy with such ifs. But, Mahomes instead views it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Patrick Mahomes looks forward to bringing the spark back
Irrespective of the setback, Mahomes was not highly critical of rookie Xavier Worthy. He adds, “Xavier came out hot, making plays. Hopefully, we can keep him more involved throughout the entirety of the game. That goes with me giving him chances.” Moreover, he was also simultaneously appreciative of the Bills’ performance and is ready to be back with momentum.
Mahomes’ added, “The undefeated thing was cool, but that’s not our ultimate goal.” He continued, “We feel like we can play better. So we’ll get back to work and try to use this as a spark.”
Head coach Andy Reid also took to supporting Mahomes point of view adding, “Worthy will learn from the one on the sideline. We’ll have to take a peek at it on tape to see exactly what happened.” He continued, “He’ll get better at those. And then we’ll get him the ball a little quicker as we go on them.”
Now, as the Chiefs will come together again for Week 12 against the Carolina Panthers, Mahomes and Co. are determined to avoid a two-game losing streak.
