Clark Hunt Forced to Take Drastic Step Due to Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid as Billionaire Owner Reveals Chiefs’ Family Tradition

The AFC Conference Championship is going to be a fireworks-filled thriller to watch. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills have met each other 3 times in the postseason since 2020. And all three have been won by Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. But due to this duo, Chiefs’ owner Clark Hunt revealed that he had to forcefully get rid of something he used to follow earlier.
During the Wednesday episode of Good Morning Football, Hunt joined the show, where he was asked about the Chiefs and his family. This discussion further led to a very important question: “Are you one of these guys who likes to put his left shoe on before his right shoe, as you are in the pursuit of a third straight Super Bowl?”
To which, Clark Hunt mentioned that because of the two, QB Patrick Mahomes and HC Andy Reid, he was forced to leave such superstitions behind. Explaining his stance, the owner expressed, “We’re not very superstitious. I got rid of all my lucky ties when we hired Andy Reid and drafted Patrick Mahomes. We didn’t need those lucky ties.” Wow! Now that’s a huge compliment for sure.
Indeed, the Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid duo have helped the Chiefs achieve new heights. Earlier, in the 2010s, the Chiefs were a strong team, hoping to reach the playoffs or Super Bowls. But after 2018, things started to change. And now this franchise has become a team that no one can ignore. The duo has helped them to win three Super Bowls, two of them back-to-back in the last couple of seasons. Even in 2022, CBS Sports named this duo as no. 1.
Not only that! Before this season, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s duo posted an 88-25 record (including postseasons). After 2024, this record has gotten better. It remains to be seen how far the Chiefs go this year. Until then, Clark Hunt and his family are keeping the traditions alive!
A tradition that helps Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s Chiefs win?
Some might be knocking on wood. Some may be keeping their lucky penny. Whatever the Chiefs Kingdom is doing, one thing is pretty clear: they are trying to keep their superstitions or traditions. The reason? Every Chiefs faithful wants Patrick Mahomes and the team to win this three-peat. But what about such activities from the owner, Clark Hunt?
Well, in the same episode of the show, Hunt shared some interesting traditions that his family follows before each game. Hunt shared, “We do have some traditions as a family, before each game. We’ll get together and pray as a family and then my parents started a tradition that my wife and I have carried on. They would have a quick kiss before each game, so my wife Tav (Tavia Hunt), and I do that before every game and then we let the guys on the field determine the outcome.” Well, that’s a sweet gesture to show support for his team.

This gesture also reminds us of a tradition followed by Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes. They too always share a kiss before every game as per their tradition. So, these kisses will add an extra sprinkling of luck on the Chiefs in their AFC battle against the Bills at the Arrowhead Stadium. Along with this, Clark Hunt will also be keeping up with another tradition. He will be the Drum Honoree for the event as part of a tradition followed by the Chiefs. They introduced the GEHA Deck in 2019, celebrating two home-game traditions—the Drum Honoree and the Tony DiPardo Spirit Leader.
Before this, Hunt has served five times as the Drum Honoree at the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead. And now, this will be his sixth. Are you ready to watch this interesting battle at 6:30pm ET on Sunday, January 26?
