Fever GM opens up on decision to appoint Stephanie White: “She is Indiana basketball royalty”

Caitlin Clark’s new GM Amber Cox opened up on her move to acquire head coach Stephanie White on Saturday.

During an appearance on the ‘In Case You Missed It’ podcast with Khristina Williams on Saturday, Cox was asked about the appointment of White. Williams asked the former Dallas COO why it was important for her to hire someone like Stphanie and what it meant especially considering it was her first move as the new GM.

Amber Cox responded explaining how Stephanie was a very important building block of the project, apart from being an Indiana Fever legend:

“Stephanie is Indiana basketball royalty. As a player, as a coach. What she’s done here at every level including with the Fever in her first stint as the head coach just made a lot of sense for us.” Cox said.

Further explaining her decision to hire the former Connecticut Suns coach, Cox shed light on the importance of Stephanie’s experience with former general manager Linn Dunn and president of Indiana Fever basketball operations, Kelly Krauskopf.

“Where we are in our journey, bringing in somebody that has experience sitting in that lead seat and has obviously had a lot of success in this league was critically important” Cox said. “I’ve been a long admirer of her work (and) never had the opportunity to work with her obviously Kelly Krauskopf and Linn Dunn have worked with Steph so it just made a lot of sense.”Caitlin Clark back in training under Stephanie White

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark is back in training under new head coach Stephanie White. In a video posted by the Indiana Fever’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, the star worked on various drills ahead of the new season.

The video begins with Clark alongside a trainer as Stephanie White can be seen overseeing the workout. Beginning with bounce passes of the court, the video highlights Clark’s intense workout during the offseason.

As the video moves along further, Stephanie interacted with Clark during her workout, giving her certain tips whether that be regarding her ball-handling skills or her shooting form. The 13-minute video ends with Clark hitting 3-pointers and free throws before high-fiving her new head coach and walking off the court.
