Davis was a talented wideout blessed with both speed and athleticism.
He spent four years with Texas Tech, both as a receiver and their primary kick returner.
Three of those seasons would be with future NFL superstar Mahomes under center.
Davis caught 15 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns after featuring in all 16 games during his senior year in 2016.
That was the same season Mahomes led the country in yards per game, passing yards, and touchdowns thrown.
In total, Davis left college with impressive numbers and was used across the offense.
He racked up 1213 receiving yards over his four seasons, along with 17 touchdowns and 522 return yards.
Davis entered the 2017 NFL Draft but went unselected, only for the Atlanta Falcons to sign him as a free agent that summer.
The Galveston native was twice waived by the organization, with his NFL dream cut short in August 2017.
Mahomes has gone to become a two-time league MVP, with three Super Bowl rings by the age of 29.
Davis’ career took a very different path, with the wideout thrust back into the regular world.
He initially got a job with medical device company Zimmer Biomet, where he worked as a sales rep throughout his 20s.
But last year Davis returned to the field, taking up a role as a teacher and coach at Estacado High School in Lubbock, TX.
Writing on his LinkedIn page, he explains: “As a dedicated educator and coach, I strive to inspire and empower students both academically and athletically.
“In my role as a teacher, I create engaging lesson plans that foster critical thinking and a love for learning.
“As the Head Boys Track Coach, I lead the track and field program, focusing on athlete development, teamwork, and competitive success.
“Additionally, I coach the wide receivers, emphasizing skill enhancement and strategic play.
“My commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom and field, as I work to promote sportsmanship, discipline, and academic achievement among all student-athletes.
“I believe in cultivating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages students to reach their full potential.”
