(PARIS) — A Colorado Springs soldier stationed at Fort Carson has earned the United States’ first medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Elizabeth Marks took silver in the 50m freestyle for S6, which is the classification for swimmers with short stature, lower trunk and leg impairment, or loss of two limbs, according to the Associated Press.

“It’s an honor,” Marks said. “We have a really strong, beautiful team, and I’m glad that I could represent.”

It was Marks’ second consecutive silver medal in the event, taking her tally to six medals across three Games. Jiang Yuyan of China won the gold.

According to the Facebook page for Olympic City USA, Marks is stationed at Fort Carson and is part of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.
