Video: Chiefs’ Andy Reid Reacts to Travis Kelce Lateral, Practices It ‘Every Day’ | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wasted little time in easing uncertainty in the first half of Monday’s game against the New Orleans Saints about whether his team had planned its spectacular sideline move.
Patrick Mahomes completed a pass to Travis Kelce on 3rd-and-22, and the tight end then passed it laterally to Samaje Perine. That left the Chiefs just one yard short of a first down, and they eventually converted on the ensuing fourth down before ending the drive with a field goal.
“We do it every day in practice,” Reid said when asked whether the play was planned or not.
This isn’t the first time Kelce has thrown a live ball to the ground after a catch.
During a showdown with the Buffalo Bills last season, he threw a hit to Kadarius Toney. It was going for the touchdown in the final minutes and certainly the play of the year, but it was canceled because Toney lined up in the neutral zone before the snap.
