It’s no secret that Patrick Mahomes is a fan of golf. So, of course, he was tuned in on Sunday during the 89th Masters tournament, and saw a very exciting finish.
Rory McIlroy held the lead for much of the day until the 13th hole where he had a double bogey. Because of that, Justin Rose was able to come back and eventually tie it up at 11-under par. That led to a sudden-death playoff between the two on the par-4 18th hole.
Rose missed his 15-foot birdie attempt, while McIlroy landed a 4-foot birdie putt on the first hole of the playoffs.
And thus, he became just the sixth player to Grand Slam, having now won the Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship.
So, Patrick Mahomes took a moment to congratulate McIlroy on this achievement.
“Congrats!! @McIlroyRory,” Mahomes posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was actively live tweeting during the tournament, celebrating the big moments.
Here were some of his posts throughout the day:
“Bout to be an all time finish! #Masters”
“Oh my what a golf shot! #Masters”
“🎯🎯🎯”
“Wow. Wow. Wow.”
“Great golf!”
