Jason Kelce appears to smash phone of man who used a gay slur to describe brother Travis and Taylor Swift
Jason Kelce was in Happy Valley on Saturday for the Penn State-Ohio State game with ESPN’s “College GameDay.
Jason Kelce appeared to run into some trouble with a college football fan while he was in Happy Valley on Saturday for the Penn State-Ohio State game.
Videos shared on social media and verified by NBC News show Kelce walking outside Penn State’s Beaver Stadium holding a case of beer while he is surrounded by fans.
In the background, a man can be heard shouting at Kelce and then using a homophobic slur to describe his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, in reference to Travis Kelce’s relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
In the videos, Kelce then appears to turn around, grab the man’s phone, smash it to the ground, pick it up again and walk away.
Another angle appears to show the man chasing after Kelce and asking for his phone back. In this video, Kelce appears to repeat the slur back to the person.
It was not immediately clear if the man whose phone was smashed was the same man who shouted the slur. It was also not clear whether the man was a student at Penn State or Ohio State or if he was just visiting for the game.
ESPN, which is representing Kelce in the matter, declined to comment. Penn State did not immediately respond to an inquiry about whether the man is a student there.
Kelce retired from the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of last season and has been appearing as a commentator for ESPN. He was at the game Saturday with the network’s “College GameDay” and participated in a kicking challenge against a Penn State student for the program.
Kelce’s brother, Travis Kelce, and Swift have been in a relationship since last summer, when Travis Kelce showed up to the Eras Tour in Kansas City with a friendship bracelet and a dream.
Since then, the couple has frequently been seen supporting each other’s careers, with Swift cheering on the Chiefs at home games and Travis Kelce making appearances at Eras Tour shows around the globe.
Jason Kelce and Swift have also become close over the course of her relationship with his brother, hanging out in the box above Arrowhead Stadium during Chiefs games. Kelce and his wife, Kylie, took two of their three daughters to see Swift’s Eras Tour in Miami last month.
NFL fans and Pennsylvania residents alike were left stunned this weekend after former Eagles star and current commentator Jason Kelce snapped during a heated encounter at a Saturday morning game between Ohio State and Penn State in Happy Valley.
Known for his no-nonsense attitude both on and off the field, Jason’s patience hit a breaking point after an offensive comment about his brother, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, escalated into a fiery moment caught on camera.
Initially, a crowd of fans followed Jason Kelce around, cheering him on and even asking for fist bumps, but the mood turned sour, when a member of the crowd hurled an anti-gay slur targeting Travis Kelce and his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift.
Jason Kelce’s Patience Hits A Breaking Point At College Football Game
In footage circulating online, Jason can be seen stopping in his tracks, visibly angered, and confronting a man nearby. Moments later, he grabbed the man’s phone and forcefully threw it to the ground, where it made a loud shattering sound before he stormed off.
One social media user who shared the clip on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, wrote, “I love this. Jason Kelce just took a stand for normal men against the ‘idiots who have become way too comfortable saying ridiculous sh-t to people who can actually kick their a–‘ crowd. Good for him.”
Bystander Takes Aim At Travis Kelce
Though the offensive slur clearly provoked Jason, some questions remain about whether he targeted the correct individual.
No footage has surfaced that clearly identifies who in the crowd shouted the slur, and it’s unclear if Jason inadvertently grabbed the wrong person’s phone. However, an additional angle shows the man arguing with Jason immediately before the incident, though it’s unknown if he was the one responsible for the initial slur.
Fans Praise Jason Kelce For Taking Action
After seeing the video of the incident, many fans of the Kelce brothers (and of Taylor Swift) praised the retired NFL player for taking a stance.
“Making fun of a 6’3 300lb man’s family is an interesting choice,” one X user said.

“A man is seen as a faggot for dating one of the most successful/sought after women in the world?” a third said, referring to Taylor Swift.
“Good for Jason,” a fourth said, adding, “That guy is a loser.”
