New Dad Patrick Mahomes Returns to Old Habits After Heartbreaks As Wife Brittany Shakes Off Pregnancy Problems
As Patrick Mahomes walked off the field after the crushing Super Bowl 2025 loss, he took a long look back at the confetti falling—not red and gold, but the colors of the opposing team. It was a sight he had not seen for the last two years as he described the feeling as “the worst thing in the world.” Super Bowl LIX was meant to be historic for the Chiefs as they stood on the brink of doing something no other NFL team had done —win three straight Super Bowls. It was meant to be the night when Mahomes would etch his face on the NFL’s Mount Rushmore. But instead of a career-defining triumph, Mahomes endured one of his toughest performances on the biggest stage. He was sacked six times, the most in any game of his career. After the game, he took responsibility for the crushing defeat and he is already back to his personal drawing board.
The last time Mahomes lost a Super Bowl, he bounced back by winning two championships and earning MVP honors in both games, after an AFC Championship defeat. So, it will be hard to imagine the QB not bouncing back in emphatic fashion next season. Teammate Charles Omenihu has already hinted at a “revenge tour,” and with Travis Kelce returning for a 13th season, the Chiefs dynasty isn’t done. Mahomes is already planning on using the pain of defeat as fuel for not only the next campaign but for his NFL future.
“Anytime you lose a Super Bowl, it’s the worst feeling in the world and it will stick with you the rest of your career,” Mahomes said after the defeat. “These are the two losses that will motivate me to be even better the rest of my career.” If these words aren’t enough to convince you that Mahomes will be a different beast in the coming season then his IG story might assure you of this.
Almost a month after the Eagles’ 40-22 Super Bowl shellacking, Patrick Mahomes fired up Chiefs Kingdom by posting gym snaps with trainer Bobby Stroupe on Tuesday. Now, Stroupe is someone who has been training Mahomes since the QB was nine years old and understands what Mahomes needs to do to get back on track, having been instrumental in his fitness and success over the years.
Heading into the last season, the aim was for Mahomes to get faster backward and forward, be stronger on pulls and deadlifts, and improve his rotational power and speed. Earlier, Stroupe gave an insight into the QB’s Super Bowl workout routine before the game against the Eagles.
Before the Super Bowl, Mahomes went through some of his hardest workouts of the year. He finally got to rest for the week of the big game. During the season, Mahomes follows a rigorous training routine, balancing sessions with the Chiefs’ strength and conditioning staff while also dedicating three days a week—totaling 10 to 12 hours—to working with Stroupe. Their schedule is strategic: they hit the gym the day after a game, again the following day, and once more two days before the next matchup. For a typical Sunday game, that means training with Stroupe on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
Their training routine kicks off with a focus on mobility drills and soft-tissue work to enhance flexibility and recovery. The second session ramps up the intensity with jumps, hops, swings, throws, sprints, and other explosive movements designed to build power and agility. The final workout of the week is the shortest but also the most intense, pushing Mahomes to his limits just before game day.
While Mahomes spends hours working out under Stroupe’s watchful eye, it is not only the conventional training methods that his gym coach utilizes. Gymnastics, javelin-based workouts, as well as martial arts exercises are some of the other routines Stroupe plans for Mahomes.
Those who follow Mahomes would be familiar with lighthearted jabs at the Chiefs QB’s “dad bod,” but according to Stroupe, that is something an NFL player should have.
Talking to the PEOPLE last year Stroupe revealed, “I’ll be the first to tell you that I think an NFL quarterback should have at least 14% body fat. It’s not from an unhealthy standpoint, but from a force absorption standpoint. You have to be able to take contact.” The NFL regular season can be an unforgiving beast at times, with games coming thick and fast. As such, you need your best players to absorb some hits and go again the next week without spending too much time on the sidelines.
Mahomes has a regimen locked in with the sports coach and they usually train four or five days a week during the off-season. But now, since the 29-year-old has a growing family and recently became a father to a baby girl, they work out during the time they can find. Mahomes’s offseason isn’t just squats and sprints.
It’s midnight feedings and aquarium trips. “He’s also redefining what fatherhood looks like—even with a full plate,” raved family friend Jenna on Instagram.

Halloween 2024 saw the Mahomes clan morph into a mini-zoo: Patrick as a zookeeper, Brittany as a kangaroo, four-year-old Sterling as a flamingo, and Bronze as a lion. The vibe? Pure joy—a stark contrast to February’s heartbreak. “Happy Halloween🖤,” they captioned, proving resilience isn’t just for the gridiron.
Meanwhile, Mahomes isn’t the only one looking to shake off the rigors of the previous year. Brittany is also flipping pregnancy challenges into personal wins faster than a flea-flicker touchdown.
Brittany Mahomes’s postpartum playbook
While Patrick recalibrates, Brittany’s scripting her own comeback. Weeks after welcoming daughter Golden Raye on January 12, she’s back in the gym, laughing through workouts with chickens clucking nearby “Back in the gym with a side of Chickens 🤣😍,” she wrote in an IG story.
Even during her pregnancy, she would often share her workouts on social media, prioritizing her fitness above everything. Hence, it is no surprise that she is back with her postpartum fitness journey.
Between workouts and boardrooms, Brittany’s mastering the balancing act. Her fitness brand, Brittany Lynne Fitness, and KC Current investments showcase her MVP-worthy multitasking. “Work trip with my boo & he got the goods 🤣,” she joked earlier this week, blending business with play.

As for Mahomes, he has also begun his grind with the aim to get back to the top. He has already mentioned that the defeat will only motivate him further and it would take a brave man to bet against him and the Chiefs getting back on top next season.
