Basketball prodigy Caitlin Clark has received a word of caution about the risk of being branded a ‘coach killer,’ especially after Christie Sides was deposed. At 47, Sides guided the Indiana Fever to their first postseason berth since 2016 prior to being let go at season’s end.
Stephanie White is now assuming command as the new head coach for a tenure of two years after previously leading the Connecticut Sun.
In her new role, White is set to exploit the stellar talents of WNBA Rookie of the Year Clark, who topped the ranks in assists and three-pointers last season.
White’s relationship with Caitlin Clark could very well become the cornerstone of her success with the Fever a team she previously coached and served as an assistant. Dan Dakich, sports commentator and former coach, expressed his concern for Sides and how this shift might affect Clark’s towering reputation.
“I feel bad for coach Sides because one of the things you have to understand, and I got this from someone who wanted the job… it’s the most high-profile job in the league,” Dakich lamented on the OutKick YouTube channel.

He underscored the significance of the position, stating, “It’s the most high-profile job in the history of the WNBA, because you’ve got the most high-profile player in the history of the WNBA, that’s what you’ve got.”
“And now people are paying attention. Look, I don’t like it one bit, the absolute only thing that could make the public go against Caitlin Clark is if she becomes a ‘coach killer’.
“And she’s off to a start. Of what? Of becoming a ‘coach killer’. One year, one coach, that coached got gassed.”
Dakich commented on the appeal of the premier coaching role in the WNBA and added: “I don’t know, man, would you want the job? Absolutely. That’d be the most fun job in the country.”
“Listening to everyone b—h, whine and moan about your team, that’s always fun. You want it to matter, you want the heat.”
White, 47, might have her own thoughts on whether or not that’s what she’s aiming for in the role. However, extracting an even better performance from Clark and progressing further in next year’s playoff scenario is one way she can help extinguish the ‘coach-killer’ narrative.
