Paige Bueckers Not Fond of $1.4 Million Fortune as She Confesses Sharing the Same Caitlin Clark Privilege

Paige Bueckers is set to play in the WNBA this season, and while she may currently be facing a scoring slump, there’s no denying the brilliance of her collegiate career. Beyond her on-court success, Bueckers has consistently used her platform to advocate for necessary changes in both her sport and the broader world. Her powerful ESPYs speech in 2021 serves as a prime example of the values she stands for.
The six-foot guard from UConn has earned a significant sum through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals during her college years—$1.4 million, to be exact. However, in a recent interview with Sportico, Bueckers made it clear that personal wealth is not her focus.
“NIL is about building your brand, image and wealth.” Bueckers stated, before sharing what she thought of the system. While others are on a quest to accrue incredible riches, the Huskies guard is focused on something else. Paige Bueckers wants the focus on what she’s done for others rather than herself. “How did she give back to people who’ve given so much back to her?” She said in a telephonic interview with Sportico.
Not only that, Paige Bueckers went on record to acknowledge the kind of privilege she possessed being a white person. “I live with white privilege every single day,” the UConn star said, before elaborating on the statement. “I’ve seen the effects of discrimination. I don’t face racism, but I’ve seen the important people in my life—a lot of my teammates, friends and family—dealing with it.” It doesn’t take away from her talents and abilities, but it does play a role in her success and opportunities.
Her admittance was reminiscent to Iowa alum and current Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. In the Times Athlete of the Year article, she spoke out about her privilege. “I want to say I’ve earned everything, but as a white person, there is privilege. A lot of the players who have made this league what it is are Black women. ”
These two superstars acknowledging their privilege is a step in the right direction. Even though they’re talented beyond measure, their journey to the top has been less harsh. Off the court, Bueckers has been doing everything right. On the court, however, is a different story.
Paige Bueckers inconsistency continues in legendary win over Gamecocks
UConn did what many considered impossible—they beat South Carolina at home. Dawn Staley’s team broke their 71 game winning streak at home after the upsetting loss. Azzi Fudd’s incredible performance was the highlight of the night, but Paige Bueckers’ lack of scoring is slowly becoming a concern.
While the point guard put up her first points and assists double-double game this season, she still shot terribly from the field. It wasn’t a horrible game for her, she had 10 assists and 7 rebounds, but the scoring wasn’t there.

The UConn point guard is averaging more than 18 points per game this season, but she hasn’t looked the same these last few games. She put up only 8 against DePaul, and a very inefficient 14 in the loss against the Lady Vols.
Considering that she’s all set to be the top pick in this year’s WNBA draft, fans and analysts alike are expecting more from her. Paige Bueckers has shown over and over again that she’s a versatile scorer. It’s just a matter of time before she catches her rhythm again.
Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies will take on the Seton Hall Pirates on the 19th. She averages 18pts against them in her career on good shooting splits. Bueckers will hope to continue her good form on Wednesday.
