Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to an NFL-best 15-2 record this season.

The Chiefs’ proficiency during the regular season affords them a bye in the opening round of the playoffs, and for Mahomes and his family, the bye week will be extra special.

Mahomes told CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson that he and his wife Brittany are expecting their third child on Sunday. If the baby comes late, the maternal Mahomes will be induced on Monday, welcoming the third Mahomes child into the world.

The Mahomes family currently has two children, three-year-old daughter Sterling Skye and two-year-old son Bronze. The coming child is a girl, and the family has not yet announced a name for the baby, or if it will also be metal-related. The family initially announced the pregnancy back in July.

The birth couldn’t come at a better time in-season, with the Chiefs not playing again until the divisional round on either January 18 or 19. Mahomes will be able to take the time off to spend with his family. Bye weeks are usually meant for rest, but surely for Mahomes, he will find himself quite tired taking care of the families’ new addition.image

Perhaps the new Mahomes child could be a good luck charm for the Chiefs, who have seemingly already had luck on their side this season, far surpassing their expected record of 10-7 based on point differential.

This season was Mahomes’ first as a starter failing to surpass 4,000 yards, but, as he’s done his whole career, he’s shown up when it matters most. Mahomes led the NFL and set career highs with five fourth-quarter comebacks and seven game winning drives.

Mahomes is the NFL’s all time leader in passer rating in the playoffs, and is looking to improve his career 15-3 record in the playoffs en route to a potential fourth Super Bowl win.

Kansas City Chiefs fans are already trying to guess the gender of Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ third child, inspecting last Friday’s pregnancy announcement for clues.

If the family needs a name for Baby Mahomes No. 3, fans have suggestions.

Chiefs Kingdom is hyped.

While the Chiefs begin prepping for a run at three consecutive Super Bowl wins, the Mahomeses are working on a three-peat of their own.

Chiefs fans can count on Brittany, co-owner of the KC Current soccer team, to share this journey on social media, where she has become a prolific queen of Instagram.

Here’s a look back at her first two pregnancies.

If history repeats itself, fans won’t have to wait long to find out the answer to the question: Boy or girl?

Sterling Skye, 3

Birth date: Feb. 20, 2021

The year 2020 was a game-changer for these high school sweethearts from Texas.

In February the quarterback won his first Super Bowl, and MVP honors, when the Chiefs blew out the San Francisco 49ers. Kansas City threw the team a monumental parade and rally.

Just weeks later, COVID-19 shut down the world.

On Sept. 1, in the throes of the pandemic, Mahomes received his first championship ring in an unusual, socially distanced ceremony the team hosted on the field at Arrowhead Stadium — everyone in masks.

But that wasn’t the only ring exchanged that day.

Right after the ceremony, inside a stadium suite decorated with white roses and marquee lights that read, “Will You Marry Me?” Patrick got down on one knee and proposed to his high school sweetheart.

“On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us. It’s always us, it’s always you and me,” Brittany wrote on an Instagram post.

“The words you looked into my eyes and said to me at this moment, will NEVER leave my mind! You made this day perfect, you took my entire breath away and I could not have imagined anything better. I love you, forever and always! Cheers to spending our lifetime together and an inseparable bond.”

On Sept. 29 they topped the engagement announcement with more news: Brittany was pregnant with their first child.

“Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding,” Brittany wrote on Instagram, posting two photos of herself and Patrick holding a sonogram.

“It’s extremely exciting,” Patrick said at the time. “Being able to grow up and have these dreams of having a family and playing in the NFL — for that stuff to start happening and really coming to truth, it’s really cool.”

Fans started doing the pregnancy math: Would Brittany give birth around the time of the next Super Bowl?

Less than a week later they revealed in a video montage on social media that Patrick was going to be a #GirlDad.

They used their two dogs, Silver and Steel, for the reveal, painting their paws pink and having them walk down a white carpet.

“Baby Girl,” Brittany wrote on Instagram. “P.S, — Yes, my dogs walked down a run way with pink paws for the reveal.”

They invited the public to follow the pregnancy, and an excited Chiefs Kingdom treated it like the impending birth of a royal princess.

Brittany, at the time Brittany Matthews, ran her own fitness company and reached out to other moms-to-be by creating a workout guide for expectant mothers.

“I wanted to give you guys a little taste of what it’s gonna look like, so I recorded a workout from Week 4 of the guide for you guys,” she wrote on Instagram with video clips of doing lunges and working out with weights.

Shortly after the pregnancy announcement, a reporter asked Patrick which teammate he might view as an uncle and who could be asked to babysit.

“As far as like an uncle, I would say like (then-fellow quarterback) Matt Moore or someone like that that’s responsible,” Patrick said, adding with a grin, “I can’t let Trav (Travis Kelce) or anybody like that do it, I mean we never know what would happen.”

The impending birth came up in more than one interview as Patrick prepared for Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7.

“We have all the things planned out and every single gadget and tool you could have to be great parents,” he said during Super Bowl week.

“At the same time I’m trying to tell her to hold off until after the game. But, uh, whenever it happens it happens, but if we could wait maybe until a few weeks after the game that would probably be ideal.”

The Chiefs lost 31-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what was called the worst game of Patrick’s career.

Thirteen days later, he became a father.

Sterling Skye’s arrival was hailed not only in Kansas City — Union Station lit up pink for her, and Mayor Quinton Lucas sent greetings — but across the country as well.

A royal birth indeed.

Her birth made news in People magazine, on the Today Show and Good Morning America and in other entertainment magazines.

Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 1

Birth date: Nov. 28, 2022

Sterling was 1 year old when her parents got married after a two-year engagement in a lavish, getaway wedding in Hawaii on March 12, 2022. She was old enough to drive down the aisle in a kid-sized luxury car.

Then two months later in May— in another “but wait, there’s more!” moment — came the Instagram announcement that another baby was on the way.

The newlyweds labeled the news simply: “Round 2.”

They posted a photo of Sterling holding a sign that read “Big Sister Duties Coming Soon” and another of Mom and Dad holding both Skye and a sonogram pic.

The following month, they gave exclusive rights to People to cover the gender reveal, a house party with family and friends where they squirted blue liquid at a “Boy or Girl” sign.

Mom and Dad, and big sister Skye, wore light blue sweatshirts that said “Baby Mahomes, Boy or Girl” with the word boy circled.

In a memorable moment, Patrick exuberantly jumped, fully clothed, into a swimming pool filled with oversized rubber duckies.

Bronze’s parents announced his arrival in November on social media.

“Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III 11/28/22 7lbs 8oz,” Patrick tweeted, tagging his wife.

The first “Patrick” in the family is Patrick Mahomes senior, a former major league pitcher.

They shared a photo of the baby, his face not shown, lying on a blanket printed with “Mahomes.” A bracelet with block letters spelling out “Bronze” lay next to him.

Brittany earned “super” mom bona fides with Bronze’s birth.

She attended a Chiefs game at Arrowhead against the Los Angeles Rams the day before, tweeting to her followers during the game. Fans who knew she was due at any moment speculated that she had gone into labor during the game.

She reassured them that she hadn’t.

But after the game, talking to reporter Erin Andrews, Patrick seemed to suggest that “Round 2” was about to begin.

Last week, when they announced Brittany’s pregnancy, she wrote: “Round three, here we come.” Sterling is 3 now, and Bronze turned 1 in November.

More than 1 million people have “liked” the announcement since Friday, including Taylor Swift, Eric Stonestreet, the Chiefs, the NFL and WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who wrote, “Awhhh congrats!!!”

Chiefs fans already consider this new baby Mahomes a lucky sign.

A fan on Facebook wrote: “#3 if foreshadowing for the 3-peat!!!”
