Patrick Mahomes Barber Dishes On the ‘Urge’ That Led to the End of the Mohawk

All good things must come to an end—including Patrick Mahomes’ famous mohawk. And no, we’re not talking about the Kansas City Chiefs’ chances of returning to the Super Bowl.
Those odds are still astonishingly high, especially for a team that has been there five times since Patrick Mahomes took the helm.
We’re talking about Mahomes’ signature long and curly Mohawk—because, believe it or not, it’s gone. And now his barber is revealing why.
Patrick Mahomes’ Personal Barber Reveals the Real Reason Behind the Haircut
So why on earth would Mahomes cut off his iconic locks that fans have come to love?
The quarterback’s longtime barber, DeJuan Bonds, has a theory.
“I just think with the end of the season, frustration maybe, like, ‘You know what, I’m done. It’s time for a new look, change,’ and I think that’s pretty much what prompted his sudden urge,” Bonds told Fox News Digital.
“It probably was a little bit [frustration], then there was like, ‘Hey you know, it’s time for a new look.’”
“A lot of times, when someone says, ‘Cut it off,’ they don’t really know,’” he said of Mahomes more “mature” look. “They’re just saying something. Me, as an experienced barber, I know that ‘cut it off’ really don’t mean ‘cut it off.’”
“I was like, ‘No, no, no. We’re not just going to cut it all off,” Bonds continued. “We’re actually going to collab on this and go a little bit at a time, take it a little bit down. We kind of came to a common ground like, ‘OK, this is the cut, this is the cut, this is the length.’ It was a collaboration on this last one.”
It was the end of a long, grueling season—one filled with highs and lows—and it didn’t exactly end the way Mahomes had hoped. So maybe a fresh start was in order.
Bonds also revealed that Mahomes had been toying with the idea of cutting his hair for a while.
So, while the Super Bowl loss may not have sparked the idea, it likely sped up the process.
Mahomes’ Haircut Came Just Days After the Devastating Super Bowl Loss
The haircut was just as shocking to fans as the way the Super Bowl played out. The Chiefs suffered a devastating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, ending their bid to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive titles.
But how soon did he make the change? The Super Bowl was on February 9th. According to Us Weekly, Mahomes got his haircut just two days later—on February 11.
His first public appearance with the new look came on February 25, when he stepped out for a date night with his wife, Brittany Mahomes.
The couple attended a college basketball game in Lubbock, Texas, where Mahomes cheered on his former school, Texas Tech, as they faced Houston.
Of course, the internet had plenty to say about his new hairstyle.
Some fans embraced the change, while others wished he had kept his signature curls.
But at the end of the day, it’s just hair.
