Patrick Mahomes Confirms Injury Status After Scaring Millions During Chiefs’ Win vs Buccaneers

What happened to Patrick Mahomes tonight against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was crazy. He somehow equalized the game in the early fourth quarter on a 7-yard pass to Samaje Perine but that’s where things went wrong. Mahomes had a non-contact injury and some sort of jerk in his left leg. He went down, but before that, threw that TD pass.

The QB couldn’t get up independently, and the Chiefs kingdom had a major injury scare. Some thought the team was about to lose the season’s first game. But here we are, the Chiefs maintain a spotless 8-0 record following the 30-24 overtime win against Baker Mayfield and his Buccaneers. The Chiefs QB spoke to the media about his injury after the game.

A Washington Post reporter took to X and shared the conversation Mahomes had on the sideline after the game. His post said, “Patrick Mahomes told ESPN that he’d rolled his ankle previously and rolled it again tonight. He said he expects to be able to play next weekend.”

Patrick Mahomes fantasy owners got a wake-up call tonight and they knew their messiah is not as impervious as people thought he would be. But the 3x SB winner mustered up some courage after being checked in the blue tent and came to the field to finish what he started. He couldn’t allow the Buccaneers to win the game in overtime.

Old-school Mahomes is somewhat back. The quarterback threw for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns. He didn’t throw a pick either. And do you remember that early first-quarter pass to DeAndre Hopkins? The play was such an eye candy. But the Kansas City Chiefs still have some lapses in their offense.

Travis Kelce dropped a catch at a very crucial moment of the game and had fumbled the ball at an earlier point in the game. But all is well that ends well. But let’s talk about Patrick Mahomes some more.

Is Patrick Mahomes in jeopardy?

The Kansas City Chiefs QB said that he rolled his ankle “earlier” and what happened in the OT win might have been the result of that. However, we knew what was going to happen when the Chiefs won the overtime coin toss. Mahomes didn’t take much risk and advanced to the Bucs territory one down at a time.

Coming into this game, Mahomes was on IR because of the same injury. So, does this mean that the injury has a chance of re-occurring again? It might. That’s why the Chiefs’s quarterback will be focused on rehabbing his ankle before he plays against the Denver Broncos a couple of days from now.

“I rolled the ankle,” Mahomes told Lisa Salters. “I rolled it last week, and when you roll it again it never feels good. But after I got some time, it started feeling better. We’ve got a short week, but we’ll rehab it up and I’ll be ready to go next week.”

The Chiefs will be resting for a couple of days, now that they have won 8 games in a row. Other injuries that the Chiefs have to worry about after the game are that of Mecole Hardman, who suffered a shoulder injury early in the game but returned later. Apart from Hardman, Chiefs DE George Karlaftis also suffered a hip injury in the game.
