Patrick Mahomes’ Dad’s Emotional Message For Chiefs QB Amid Legal Move to Earn a Living
Looking at Patrick Mahomes, anyone would feel ‘he’s the guy I wanna be when I grow up’. A true role model not just in the gridiron, even away from it. Yep, he is already a 3-time Super Bowl Champion, two-time NFL-MVP, three-time Super Bowl MVP and a whole bunch of other honors. But Mahomes is a lot more than just gridiron glories. Patrick is a husband—a father—and a son for whom his family comes first. So, that mentality to keep grinding didn’t come out of nowhere. Mahomes, too, had a special person in his life from whom he took inspiration—which his father is proud of.
In the latest episode of a series called Heart of the Kingdom, a campaign that exclusively caters to the impact of black women in the life of the Chiefs. Mahomes revealed the black women who gave his life a true meaning. “The black woman in my life that will always be an inspiration to me is my grandma, Cindy Mahomes. She told me to never back down, no matter what the situation was or is. She never backs down, and she was someone that was gonna do whatever it took to make sure her family was getting treated the right way.” Translation: Even modern day GOAT like Mahomes also had a role model in his life—to prove he is human after all.
But before today, Cindy’s impact in Mahomes’ life was never public. So, the day he chose to speak about her grandma’s impact on his life, Mahomes’ dad Patrick Mahomes Sr. couldn’t stop himself from getting emotional. On the very post itself, he commented, “Love every word son. You know she’s proud.” Of course, wherever Cindy is right now. She would definitely be smiling from the clouds seeing his grandson become the face of the NFL. I mean, Mahomes got that recovery and response mentality from Cincy, who spent most of her life confined to a wheelchair.
A tragic accident snatched Cindy’s ability to move from the neck down when Mahomes’ dad was still 7 years old. However, refusing to give up, Cindy kept on grinding to regain some strength in her hands. She even learned how to be left-handed after losing the mobility in her right hand. But tragically Cindy was taken away from us in September 2021 at age 68. So, in her absence, Mahomes only has one wish that he wants to fulfil to “honor her legacy.”
“Hopefully, I could have that same competitive spirit and loyalty as I continue to grow older and get off that football field as well. That’s how I’ll forever honor her legacy and grandma. I hope I made you proud.” While Mahomes was busy remembering Cindy’s values, his dad had to show up in court just to earn a quick buck.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. continues to face roadblocks trying to live a normal life
Remember Mahomes Sr.’s plea agreement to his DWI case last year to serve a lenient sentence? Well, that case has certain stipulations that prohibit him from living a normal life. Just days after his John Rocker fight was off the table, that could have earned him north of $85,000, Mahomes’ dad has another offer. This time it’s about signing autographs.
Yep, the ex-MLB star has an invitation from Minnesota to sign some autographs at a sports convention in St.Paul. Each of Pat Sr.’s autographs will be priced between $10-$15. So, it’s a big opportunity for him to recoup that $85,000 he could have earned from the Rocker fight.
However, it’s not like this opportunity will also be feasible for Mahomes Sr. In order to travel, he has to ask the Texas court for permission, citing that he will come back on April 14 and take a urine test. Whether this request will be granted or not, that’s a different story for someone who is still serving probation. Maybe it will turn out the way Pat Sr is hoping for. Because these opportunities to finally live a normal life while earning a living won’t come again and again. And taking his chances would only do more good for Pat Sr.’s life than the worst he has already faced.
