It was a rainy afternoon in Los Angeles, April 2022. The bus rattled through a crowded downtown street as people squeezed into tight spaces, their umbrellas dripping water onto worn-out floors. Among the passengers was Patrick Mahomes, seated quietly near the back, clad in a simple hoodie and jeans. He blended seamlessly into the crowd, engrossed in a dog-eared copy of a classic novel.
Suddenly, the sharp lurch of the bus brought everyone’s attention to the front. A pregnant woman, her hand gripping the pole tightly, struggled to steady herself as the vehicle jostled. Her face was pale, beads of sweat forming on her brow. No one moved; no one offered her a seat.
Without hesitation, Patrick stood up. “Ma’am, please take my seat,” he said softly, a kind smile playing at the corners of his lips. The woman looked up, startled by the familiar face. Her eyes widened in recognition but softened quickly with gratitude. “Thank you so much,” she whispered, carefully lowering herself into the seat. Her hand instinctively rested on her belly, her breath evening out with relief.
As the bus resumed its jerky progress through the rain-drenched streets, something shifted in the atmosphere. People whispered quietly, stealing glances at the kind stranger who had given up his seat. Patrick held onto a pole nearby, his eyes meeting hers for a brief moment, and something passed between them—a silent understanding, a shared experience that no words could capture.
Just when the ride seemed to settle into quiet normalcy, the woman gasped, her hand clenched tightly around the strap of her bag. “It’s moving,” she murmured, her voice trembling with awe and a hint of panic.
Patrick bent down slightly. “What’s moving?” he asked gently.
“My baby. I haven’t felt her move all day,” she said, her eyes brimming with emotion. “But now she’s kicking.”
Patrick’s face softened with joy, and a warm, genuine smile spread across his face. “She knows you’re safe now,” he said, his voice calm but imbued with a deeper empathy born from understanding life’s fragile moments.
The woman blinked back tears. “I don’t know how to thank you.”
“Sometimes,” Patrick replied, his voice steady as the rain outside, “all we need is a little kindness from a stranger.”
The bus screeched to a halt at its next stop. A stray dog, drenched and trembling, stood just outside, its eyes full of quiet desperation. It looked up at the door with an almost human plea. Patrick’s eyes locked onto the dog. Without a second thought, he stepped off the bus.
“Wait!” the woman called after him. “What are you doing?”
He turned back just as the doors hissed closed, rain pouring down over him. “Sometimes,” he said with a grin, “it’s not just people who need a little kindness.”
The woman watched him scoop up the dog, holding it close as he disappeared into the rainy streets. Her heart raced, her mind swirling with thoughts of fate and the strange, serendipitous nature of life. The baby kicked again, as if sharing in the emotion of the moment.
She never saw him again that day, but what she did next would change the course of their story forever. The woman, whose name was Lyla, sat frozen as the bus pulled away, her heart pounding harder than it had when she felt her baby move. She clutched her belly, her fingers trembling as she gazed out the fogged window, rain streaking down the glass like silent tears, blurring her view of the man disappearing into the storm with the shivering dog in his arms.
The baby kicked again, harder this time, as if to remind her that life itself was a delicate series of moments—some fleeting, some unforgettable. Her thoughts raced back to her own story, one filled with love, loss, and an aching loneliness that had consumed her. For months, she had moved to Los Angeles to rebuild her life after her husband, Ethan, had died in a tragic accident. Their dream of starting a family had remained just that—a dream—until one lonely night when a flicker of hope blossomed in her heart upon discovering she was pregnant. Joy and sorrow twisted together like ivy around her soul. Ethan would never hold their child; he would never know the little girl growing inside her, the one who now kicked as if urging her mother not to give up.
But something in that brief encounter with the kind stranger on the bus stirred her in a way she hadn’t felt since Ethan had been alive. It was as though, for just a moment, she had been reminded that there was goodness in the world—kindness that could heal even the deepest wounds.
Lyla couldn’t shake the image of the drenched, frightened dog, nor could she forget the calm certainty in Patrick’s eyes. She felt a surge of determination
Pregnant Brittany Mahomes Skips Chiefs Red in Favor of Cream Puffer Coat and $975 Prada Earmuffs for New Game-Day Look

Brittany Mahomes is forgoing her usual Chiefs red wardrobe in favor of a white, wintry look for the team’s latest game.
On Sunday, Dec. 15, the pregnant Kansas City Current co-owner, 29, was on the sidelines to support her husband, Patrick Mahomes, as he and his team faced off against the Browns in Cleveland. While Brittany usually shows her team spirit by sporting Chiefs colors, she switched things up this go-around by embracing a neutral palette.
The mom-to-be opted for a Lefty’s Right Mind neutral Prada puffer coat that read “Chiefs” on the lower back, along with wide-cut black pants and a pair of Prada shearling earmuffs — which retail for $975 — atop her long blonde hair.
In an Instagram Stories post, she showed off her cozy game-day look — appropriate for the 42-degree rainy weather in Cleveland — as she and her husband, also 29, embraced.

Brittany, who is currently expecting her third child with her quarterback husband, has been showing off her chic, Chiefs-themed style — and her growing baby bump — all season long on the sidelines while supporting Patrick.
At the Chiefs’ Dec. 8 game against the L.A. Chargers, Brittany dressed up in a long patent-leather coat in the perfect shade of Chiefs red. Underneath the coat, which featured wide lapels and a belt, Brittany wore a white mock-neck top and jeans. She accessorized with white sneakers and a navy blue quilted bag. The former soccer player shared snaps of her ensemble on Instagram, along with the caption: “If you’re not laughing at this point, you’re no fun😂👏🏼”
She also shared a video of her husband on her Instagram Stories, writing alongside it, “I take pride in styling my husband, but I mean damn he looks good in everything.”

The Mahomeses love a red carpet moment where they can show off their fashion sense, and they’ve had a couple opportunities to do that since the Chiefs took home the Vince Lombardi trophy at this year’s Super Bowl (for the second year in a row).
In April, the pair attended the TIME100 Gala, where Patrick was honored as one of the people on the magazine’s list of influential people of the year. Brittany wore a Sau Lee gown with a crystal crop top that bared her abs and paired it with a simple black floor-length skirt. She finished the look with sparkly Kwiat bracelets, rings and pendant earrings.
Patrick kept things simple in an all-black tuxedo with no tie, his own sparkling necklaces and a black watch by Hublot.

Elsewhere this season, Brittany has worn everything from a black-and-white striped blazer and pants to a classic red-and-black hoodie with the team’s logo. One of her most fiery outfits, though, came during the Oct. 7 game, when she channeled Britney Spears in a red leather look.
Brittany and her NFL star husband announced that they are expecting their third baby back in July. The high school sweethearts — who tied the knot on March 12, 2020, after 10 years of dating — shared the news in a joint Instagram post, and they currently share daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 2.
