Simone Biles Confirms Retirement Plans Using Jonathan Owens’ Family Shield
When Simone Biles stepped back from competition during the Tokyo Olympics, she shattered the norm, making it clear that mental health is a real, valid concern that should never be hidden or shamed. That moment spoke volumes, not just for athletes, but for anyone who’s ever felt the weight of the world on their shoulders. Fast forward to Paris, and Simone showed the world what happens when you prioritize your well-being: she took a break and then came back to win THREE gold medals! So, what about LA 2028? Is Simone thinking about making a comeback?
When asked, she threw out the perfect Simone Biles answer: “Never say never. The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know. But I am getting really old,” she laughed. It’s clear she’s keeping the door open, but she’s not rushing into anything either. Then, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Simone got real about what’s next for her.
“Life and death,” she said. “Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? I’m at a point in my career where I’m humble enough to know when to be done.” She’s at a crossroads, weighing the decision carefully, knowing that continuing would come with sacrifices. “If you go back, you’ll be greedy,” she acknowledged. “Those are the consequences.”
But here’s the twist: now, it’s not just about gymnastics. It’s about life. “When you’re younger, it’s like, prom, college. Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?” Simone is grappling with that question, and right now, it seems like family is at the top of her list. Since marrying Jonathan Owens in 2023, they’ve spent a lot of time apart due to their careers, he’s in the NFL, and she’s on the gymnastics mat. But now, she’s trying hard to balance everything, supporting his NFL career, planning for their future, and carving out time to be with him. But when is Biles planning to have kids?
After her historic performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Simone Biles was soaking it all in. She wasn’t thinking about the future just yet she wanted to enjoy the moment. However, just a couple of days later in an interview on the “Today” show, she disclosed what is on the next stage. And when Hoda Kotb pressed the question of having children, Simone revealed that she and her husband, Jonathan Owens, an NFL player for the Chicago Bears, discussed the matter.
“Yes, me and Jonathan always talk about kids and he would have had them yesterday if he could have,” Biles said. But she further added, “We both have things we want to do before we start a family,” she said. Regarding the 2028 LA Olympics for instance, Simone will already be 31 by then.
What is quite interesting is that while Biles did not encourage it she also did not discourage it. “I think kids would be amazing,” Simone said earlier this year. “It’s one of the most amazing feelings in the world what I’ve heard, but I do get that it becomes a job and it’s hard.” Even she is ready to take a pause. “One day in the near future,” she added. Perhaps by the time the games will be hosted again in LA in 2028, she would have her first child perhaps clapping for her while holding Jonathan’s hand.
