Steph Curry Reveals Why He Got Fed Up Hearing ‘Not Like Us’ Throughout the Olympics
During the 2024 Olympics, NBA superstar Stephen Curry found himself repeatedly confronted with Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us”—to the point where he grew tired of hearing it. Curry recently opened up about this experience, as well as his friendship with Drake, during an appearance on Complex’s YouTube show “360 with Speedy.”
A Song That Was Everywhere

Curry explained that during the Olympics, “Not Like Us” seemed to be playing nonstop. Whether he was in the arena or elsewhere, the song followed him everywhere. “Everywhere we went, that’s all I heard,” Curry recalled. The constant repetition became overwhelming, especially considering the context: “the fact that they knew who I was with,” Curry said, alluding to his well-known friendship with Drake, who was famously referenced in the ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
Friendship with Drake
Curry’s connection to Drake is more than just casual. The two are often seen courtside together, and Curry pointed out that Drake even has a tattoo of his jersey number—“the 30 with the halo.” Their relationship goes back years and even has family ties, as one of Curry’s wife Ayesha’s cousins is from Toronto, Drake’s hometown. “We’re all in the same boat,” Curry said, highlighting the close-knit nature of their friendship.
The Olympics Moment
The song’s ubiquity during the Olympics became a running joke for Curry and those around him. He recounted a particular moment when he was caught on camera visibly reacting to yet another play of “Not Like Us.” Laughing about it, Curry said, “That was from the soul. That was from right here. Turn this off. Cut this up. That was from right here.” Despite the lighthearted nature of his reaction, it was clear the song had reached its limit for him.

Reflecting on His Career
The conversation also shifted to Curry’s perspective on his basketball journey. He expressed his desire to make the most out of his remaining career, stating, “I just want to be in a position where I’ve accomplished or I put myself in a position where I can say I’ve done everything I can to get everything out of this game.” Curry emphasized that he’s not done yet, reassuring fans, “I’m not nowhere close to that though… So we got some more years from you for sure.”
Conclusion
Steph Curry’s candid reflections on the Olympics, his friendship with Drake, and the omnipresence of “Not Like Us” offer a glimpse into the personal side of the NBA legend. While he may have grown weary of one of the summer’s biggest songs, Curry remains focused on his legacy and the years he still has left on the court.
