Sterling proved to be a wonderful big sister with her gentle, caring ways toward baby Golden. But it wasn’t always like that—at first, she struggled with the idea of sharing her parents’ love. She wasn’t thrilled about having a sibling. That all changed when Patrick Mahomes gave his 4-year-old daughter a heartfelt piece of advice—one that completely shifted Sterling’s perspective.

Sterling Skye Mahomes, the adorable daughter of NFL star Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes, has recently captured hearts across social media—not just for her curly hair and playful spirit, but for the way she’s blossomed into a loving big sister to her baby brother, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, affectionately nicknamed Golden.

When Brittany and Patrick first told Sterling she was going to be a big sister, the then-3-year-old didn’t exactly jump for joy. In fact, she was confused and, at times, frustrated. After all, she had been the center of her parents’ universe since birth. Suddenly, everything was about a “new baby.” There were books about babies, talk about babies, and gifts for babies. Her parents, though still attentive and loving, were often busy preparing for the arrival of someone Sterling had never met.

“She didn’t love the idea at first,” Brittany admitted in a recent interview. “There were a few tantrums, a lot of questions like, ‘Why does the baby need that?’ or ‘Do I have to share my toys?’ She’s a sensitive soul, and she just felt… unsure.”

How Brittany Mahomes Learned to Manage Her Kids' Food Allergies

The shift became more noticeable once Golden was born. Patrick and Brittany were balancing sleepless nights, bottle feedings, and diaper changes while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for Sterling. But the little girl often stood back, watching from a distance. She wasn’t angry, just unsure how she fit into this new family dynamic.

That’s when Patrick Mahomes stepped in with a heart-to-heart that changed everything.

One quiet afternoon, Patrick took Sterling outside to their backyard, where she loved to chase bubbles and kick around a mini football. He sat down beside her and said, “You know, when I was younger, I had to learn to share too. I had to learn that love isn’t something that gets smaller when more people come into your life. It grows bigger.”

Sterling looked up, her brows furrowed in concentration.

He continued, “Mommy and I love you just as much as we always have. And now, you get to be the first person your baby brother learns from. You’re not losing anything, sweet girl—you’re gaining someone who will always look up to you.”

That message, so simple yet powerful, seemed to click.

From that day forward, Sterling began approaching her little brother with curiosity rather than resistance. Slowly, her uncertainty melted into affection. She started helping her mom by handing over pacifiers, singing lullabies in her soft, high-pitched voice, and even offering to help during bath time.

“It was like a switch flipped,” Brittany shared. “She went from distant to totally invested. She tells people now, ‘I’m Golden’s big sister. I help take care of him.’ She’s so proud of that role.”

Now, as Sterling turns four, she’s fully stepped into her role as a gentle, nurturing big sister. Family videos show her gently rubbing Golden’s back during nap time, reading him board books, and making him giggle with her silly dances. The two have even started developing their own little language—giggly babbles and shared smiles only siblings can understand.

Patrick’s moment of fatherly wisdom not only reassured his daughter of her place in their growing family but helped spark a bond between siblings that will last a lifetime.

“She’s going to be an amazing leader, just like her dad,” Brittany said with a smile. “And he’s already her biggest fan.”

Sometimes, it only takes one moment, one conversation, to help a child see that love doesn’t divide—it multiplies.

Brittany Mahomes & Patrick Mahomes Share Meaning Behind 3 Kids’ Names

Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes are in their element when it comes to naming their kids—and their dogs.

Indeed, the Sports Illustrated model—who is mom to Sterling Skye, 3, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 2, and infant daughter Golden Raye—previously detailed how her and the NFL star found the inspiration for their kids’ names. And it comes down to a tradition first started with their dogs Steel and Silver.

“I got steel in college and named him after that,” Brittany wrote in an April 2023 Instagram story. “We then got our second dog & was gonna name her sterling cause it went with steel perfect.”

“Then I said no, one day I want that to be daughters name so then we came up with Silver to go with steel. Then daughter came & we were already set on sterling,” she continued, “then having a boy and him being Patrick Mahomes III, Bronze was just meant to be and went perfect.”

And this thought process did not stop as the couple welcomed their third baby, Golden, Jan. 12. In fact, they proudly displayed her name in their Instagram announcement post one day later, featuring an adorable photo of their hands cradling their baby girl’s feet in front of a wooden sign with “Golden Raye” displayed on it.

The couple—who tied the knot in 2022—first announced that were expecting a third baby in a joint Instagram post exactly six months prior.

“Round three,” the high school sweethearts wrote in the caption of their July 12 Instagram post, alongside a video of their family dancing with a sonogram, “here we come.”

But Brittany has since shared insight into how exhausting pregnancy has been for her.

“I need naps,” the 29-year-old admitted on an August episode of the Whoop podcast. “So I like to work my naps into my schedule now, because when you’re pregnant you’re tired.”

“With the first pregnancy, it was just me,” she explained. “So I could take naps, sleep all day, you know, I had nothing priority for me to do. Then, with Bronze, it was like, ‘Well, I have to take care of this kid but I’m tired,’ so I would just nap when she napped.”

Even so, Brittany showed time and time again that she was committed to staying fit and sticking to her workout routine—even in the face of a back injury and her third trimester of pregnancy. And some of those workouts ended up being a family affair.

“The best workouts,” Brittany wrote over a Jan. 1 video posted to her Instagram Stories, with Sterling sitting comfortably on her mom’s head as she leaned against the weight bench lifting dumbbells.

After all, the Kansas City Chiefs player has learned to cherish every moment with their family from the former soccer player, naming Brittany the quarterback of the family.

“Enjoy your life every single day and not worry about what everyone thinks,” the 29-year-old told E! News of Brittany’s outlook on life in 2023. “You want to enjoy those moments and remember those moments. And for us, we try to enjoy those moments with our family as much as possible.”

“She has her head on her shoulders the right way. She’s my rock. She’s the one that, through tough times, can get me through,” Patrick gushed. “Having someone that supports you every single day like I do is the reason that I am in the position that I am today.”
