Unrivaled Turns Bitter for Angel Reese as America’s $81.6B Stakeholder Provokes Major Outrage

Even though Unrivaled provides an amazing opportunity for WNBA players, it also requires a lot of compromise. Angel Reese, star forward for the Chicago Sky, had to move to Miami to participate in the player-owned league. The shift to Miami came with many perks, however, as the facilities provided are top-notch! Players get access to a world-class gym and practice facility, get all the treatments they want, and have cosmetic and leisure experiences.
However, everything isn’t sunshine and roses either! No one likes issues at the airport, and bad interactions with staff always leave a sour taste behind. In a recent tweet, Angel Reese complained about the airport customer service in Miami. “Miami might be the worst airport with the worst customer service EVER!” The Bayou Barbie said on X, sounding extremely frustrated.
That is an enormous surprise considering the extent of the airport’s finances and trades. In 2024 alone, Miami International Airport’s trade was valued at about $81.6 million! The surplus alone was over $14 billion, so they have no excuse for poor management or customer service.
Angel Reese has a heavy itinerary planned for the next few days, and cannot afford to deal with airport issues. The Chicago Sky superstar is headed to New Orleans to take part in Super Bowl festivities. That’s not all, however, as Reese signed a record-breaking endorsement deal with McDonalds as well! The Angel Reese Special meal is set to release on Feb 10th, and fans cannot wait.
Why is Angel Reese not playing in the Unrivaled 1v1 tournament?
A one-versus-one tournament in a professional league is an entirely new concept. Fans have been begging the NBA and WNBA to implement this, and Unrivaled capitalized on what the public wanted. What was surprising, however, was Angel Reese deciding not to participate in the contest.
The WNBA stars are about to compete in a high-stakes 1v1 tournament this weekend, with an enormous cash prize on the line. A grand total of $350,000 will be split between the winner, the runner-up, semi-finalists, and more, with the victor receiving $200k! Certainly giving players an incentive to compete.

However, Angel Reese announced that she will not be competing in the 1v1 tournament. Instead, she is flying out to New Orleans to coach a celebrity flag football game in the lead-up to the Super Bowl. This decision prompted a lot of criticism from fans and analysts alike, but the Chicago star is pursuing her off-court success quite vigorously!
Nevertheless, it will be fun to see the 1v1 tournament this weekend. The top stars in the W are going to match up against each other, and we can’t wait to find out who will be the One. What do you think? Should Angel Reese have participated in the 1v1 tournament? Who will take home the prize money? Only time will tell.
