Caitlin Clark being named Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year has sent shockwaves through the basketball world. The Indiana Fever guard had a memorable year and continues to add to her long list of accolades.

During an interview with Time on Wednesday, Clark was asked about her views on basketball’s greatest of all time (GOAT). Clark named LA Lakers superstar LeBron James as the greatest basketball player.

“It has been cool to just see his support of myself and the ‘W’ overall … I mean he is the greatest basketball player of all time, so I think that’s pretty cool,” Clark said.

James is a four-time NBA champion and four-time MVP and has evolved into a global sports icon over his 22-year NBA career. Yet, Clark’s statement seems to have irked a section of basketball fans.

Many fans took to X to give their two cents after Clark chose James over former Chicago Bulls superstar Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time.

“Woke losers love supporting each other, Nothing new,” said one fan.

“First time I’ve been disappointed in her,” commented one fan.

“Over MJ? LMAO, c’mon CC…” said another fan.

While many disagreed with the 22-year-old Iowa alum, others applauded her stance on the GOAT debate.

“My love for clark grew even more now,” said a fan.

“CC knows ball,” said another fan.

“Goat recognize goat,” commented another fan.

Caitlin Clark shattered several college records during four years with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She surpassed Pete Maravich’s record of 3,667 points to become the NCAA’s leading points scorer.

In the WNBA, the No.1 overall draft pick had a sensational rookie season with the Indiana Fever. Clark broke the single-season assists record and the record for most assists in a game (19). She also became the first rookie in league history to record a triple-double, achieving the feat on two different occasions.
