5,000 Acres Burned in Los Angeles Wildfire as Cameron Brink Sends 8-Word Heartfelt Message

Cameron Brink may be from the East Coast but she plays for a West Coast team now. Although her rookie season with the Los Angeles Spark ended way too early because of injury, she is recovering to make a full comeback as soon as she can. And even if she played barely two months in LA, the city is forever connected to Brink. And the wildfires raging there have led her to share well wishes.

More than 5,000 acres of land has been eaten up by the fires, the Eaton Fire even claiming two lives. Reuters reported that over 70,000 people have been evacuated as the fire blazes through upscale Pacific Palisades in Pasadena. Just eight days into the new year, Southern California has seen more than 55 wildfires, with this one being the worst by far.

It was also reported that around 400,000 homes and businesses did not have power, hundreds of buildings have been destroyed, and firefighting resources and water supplies are being stretched to the limit.

Amid the devastation, Brink took to Instagram to share a picture from the LA Times with the caption, “so many thoughts and prayers for our city” with a red heart emoji. On the next stories, the Sparks player also posted some information about evacuation centers and shelters for people and furry friends alike.

Brink, who tore her ACL last summer, has been on the mend after surgery. Chosen as a wildcard pick for Unrivaled, the 23-year-old will be sitting out the debut of the upstart league, co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Part of the Lunar Owls, fans might expect to see her supporting her team in Miami.

Meanwhile, Brink also shared an update on how she’s healing from her injury.

Cameron Brink is yet to participate in basketball activities

Every time Cameron Brink talked about her injury last year, it showed her frustration at not being able to play the sport she loved. But after finally accepting that this would be a long game, the Sparks player began her journey back to a healthy body. Even if her basketball activities are limited, her recent update seems encouraging.

“I’m not able to do a ton,” Brink told ESPN’s Kendra Andrews on Jan. 7. “I’m just really appreciative that I’m able to be here and that my teammates are super accepting of me and cheering me on from the sidelines. I haven’t been able to do a ton, but [am doing] more and more every day.”

But the fact that she “feels great” is a good sign. Brink was spotted shooting around the court with her Unrivaled teammate Shakira Austin recently, so while she’s missing this season of Unrivaled, fans might expect to see her back in action in the WNBA season!
