Devastating news has hit the wire, as the Florida Panthers’ own Matthew Tkachuk appears to be injured to the point where we doubt he’ll see ice-time in the 2026 Olympics; he won’t be suiting up for Team USA.
The Tkachuk brothers were a sight to behold during the Four Nations Face-Off, where they’d purposefully antagonize Canadian players. They’d later pay the price, as they’d lose in the 4NF finals.
But don’t count on a comeback, with the 2026 Olympics taking place in Milan-Cortina, we doubt we’ll see Tkachuk suit up for Team USA this season.
Apparently, the two-time Stanley Cup champion’s injuries will keep him off the ice long-term.

“Nick Kypreos: Matthew Tkachuk’s injury may require corrective surgery that could keep him out until the Christmas holidays – Sportsnet. ”
There remain questions on his ability to recover, as he could be out past Christmas, as the Panthers place him on the LTIR.
The Panthers join the Vegas Golden Knights in teams that carry a heavy LTIR list, which not only keeps players like Matthew Tkachuk on the roster but gives them the flexibility to keep his cap hit “off the books” more or less since he’ll be out long-term.
As we know how the Golden Knights do it with Mark Stone! But will we see Bill Zito use cap gymnastics in that manner?
Tkachuk has been a pivotal player in the Panthers’ lineup since he arrived, scoring 57 points (22-35) in 52 games.
He’d win his second cup with the Panthers in a decisive victory against the Edmonton Oilers for the second year in a row.
Tkachuk has been a huge factor in the Panthers’ success, and being out past the middle of the season means they’ll have to count on someone to produce in his absence, which leaves a gap in the lineup.
