New footage has emerged of the arrest of NBA star Cameron Payne, which the arresting officers described as the ‘dumbest way possible’ to be taken to jail.
The 30-year-old was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona after he called the cops shortly before 3am on June 14 after getting in an argument with his girlfriend.
However, the real reason the New York Knicks guard was eventually arrested and taken to jail was easily avoidable.
The back-and-forth between Payne and the officers, who were left in disbelief at the ordeal, was captured in fresh body-cam footage released by the Scottsdale Police Department this week.
As the cops arrived at Payne’s property in response to his 911 call, the former 76ers player is seen telling them that he and his girlfriend ‘just had a disagreement, going back and forth.’

New footage has emerged of the arrest of NBA star Cameron Payne from earlier this year
Payne insisted that the fight did not turn violent, seemingly suggesting that the officers’ assistance was no longer necessary.
One of the police officers began to ask Payne for his details as his partner enters the property to talk with his girlfriend.
However, Payne refused to disclose his name, claiming that he didn’t have to tell the officer and that he’d ‘rather not.’
The cop calmly explained that they required the correct names and personal details of the parties involved when responding to a domestic violence call.
‘You can do that but you rather not doing that would mean I would have to place you under arrest,’ the officer said.
But Payne continued to resist providing his identification until his girlfriend intervened.
Despite referring to him as ‘Cameron,’ his girlfriend told him: ‘Just go by what you go by, Terry Johnson.’
Payne finally provided his alias, ‘Terry Johnson,’ as his name to the officer, who proceeded to ask for his date of birth.

Payne was reportedly arrested after telling cops his name was ‘Terry Johnson’
Similarly, Payne again refused before eventually relenting and hesitantly telling the officer his birthday is January 1, 1998.
‘I’m going to check this because it kind of looks like you just made up a birthday,’ the officer said.
Payne then began to become irritable and argued with the officer inside his home who had entered to check on his girlfriend.
He demanded that the cop leaves the property while they explained that they had to remain as they may have to detain him for providing false details.
The basketball player ultimately snapped, repeating his real name three times along with his correct date of birth.
‘All right you’re under arrest for giving a fake name,’ the officer replied as the other officer put Payne in handcuffs. ‘That was dumb.’
‘That was the dumbest way to get arrested man,’ said the second officer.
‘I’ve had people get arrested for dumb stuff and this is the top of the list.’

The 30-year-old hooper signed with the Knicks this offseason in free agency
‘Dude, you realize you could have told us your real name and we would have been gone five minutes ago and now you’re going to jail,’ the second officer saidas they lead him to the police car.
Payne’s girlfriend reportedly later defended him, claiming that ‘Terry Johnson’ was an alias he used when going out or booking hotels as an NBA player
Payne was eventually taken to jail where he was booked on charges of refusal to provide a truthful name and false report to law enforcement.
He was reportedly released shortly after.
Payne was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 14th overall pick of the 2015 NBA draft.
He played for the Bulls, the Cavaliers, the Suns, the Bucks and – most recently – the 76ers before signing with the Knicks this summer in free agency.
