A huge wave of anti-Tesla protests have taken place as Elon Musk takes a leading role in President Trump’s cost-cutting task force – the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The tech billionaire has garnered widespread criticism for his role in upending the federal government and his Tesla company is increasingly being targeted by disgruntled Americans.
Attacks have seen graffiti on a Tesla dealership sign, Molotov cocktails thrown at another, and Tesla charging stations set on fire.
Across the US, the Tesla facilities and vehicles are under attack after Musk’s DOGE has slashed thousands of jobs since it started in January.
The “Tesla Takedown” protests started peacefully across the country.
but there have now also been several violent incidents that have led to arrests.
It comes as Musk took on the role of leading Trump’s DOGE task force, resulting in the cut of 62,000 federal jobs – and it seems more federal cuts are on the way.
The Veterans Affairs Department is planning to cut thousands of jobs in the coming months, CBS News reports.
But adding fuel to the fire, Musk made some cutting statements in January ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
when he told thousands at a far-right German political party that “children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents.”
He was also widely condemned for making a controversial hand gesture during Trump’s inauguration celebration that has been likened to a Nazi salute.
Last month, Colorado police charged a 42-year-old woman accused of causing between $5,000 and $20,000 in damage to a Tesla dealership.
Lucy Grace Nelson allegedly vandalized a Tesla dealership by spray-painting “Nazi” under the dealership’s entrance sign and ignited small fires by igniting Molotov cocktails inside vodka bottles.
On March 4, graffiti reading “No Musk” alongside a sign that resembles a swastika was found at a Tesla dealership in Maryland after an anti-Musk protest.
The following day, Massachusetts police said that seven Tesla charging stations had been intentionally set on fire.
On March 6, 39-year-old Harrison Grant Randall was charged with six counts of defacing property for allegedly vandalizing several Tesla vehicles with stickers of Musk in the Boston suburb of Brookline while Oregon police that that at least seven gunshots were fired at a Tesla dealership, damaging cars and shattering windows.
Musk has not spoken out directly about the protests, which are now getting increasingly more violent.
but in response to a video of a man vandalizing Teslas, posted by authorities in Massachusetts, he replied.
“Damaging the property of others, aka vandalism, is not free speech!”
