Widely regarded as the top tight end in the 2023 NFL Draft, Mayer was drafted in the second round (35th overall) by the Raiders.

He wound up being the third TE taken, behind Dalton Kincaid (25th overall to the Buffalo Bills) and Sam LaPorta (34th to the Detroit Lions).

Michael Mayer saw limited action in his rookie season, hauling in 27 catches for 304 yards and two touchdowns.

In each of his last two seasons at Notre Dame, he eclipsed the 60-catch and 800-yard marks.

The Raiders addressed the tight end position again by drafting can’t-miss Georgia star Brock Bowers with the No. 13 pick.

Over his first five games of 2024, Bowers has 28 catches for 313 yards and a touchdown.

Las Vegas will try and get back to .500 when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon.

Mayer will be eligible to return in Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins.

Michael Mayer & Brock Bowers Could Be A Dangerous Duo

If the Raiders can address their quarterback situation and find a true starting-caliber signal-caller, then Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers could develop into an elite pass-catching tandem.

Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O’Connell have yet to prove they can be a suitable long-term answer behind center.

Until then, Bowers and company will just have to make do with what they have.
