Calais Campbell isn’t the one known for a shy demeanor, yet his latest comments might surprise you.
After Miami’s critical win over the Browns.
the veteran defensive tackle openly declared something that many may deem interesting.
He landed a stern warning to the Chiefs.
“It might not happen.
If it does happen, look out.
We’re coming.” To put things in perspective, Calais is talking about the chance of them getting into the playoffs with a Chiefs win over the Broncos.
They might be eyeing to avenge the 2023 season playoff loss.
The Chiefs defeated them 26-7 in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs on Jan 14, 2024.
The Dolphins themselves aren’t just leaving things to chance, though.
After starting the season 2-6, who would have imagined them eyeing a playoff spot.
Yet the Dolphins were resilient, winning six of their last eight games.
A key part of this resurgence? Campbell himself.
The 38-year-old has been a force on defense, as he racked up 46 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and four sacks in 2024.
His leadership has helped Miami hold opponents to an average of just 18.1 points over their last eight games.
And it’s not just him.
Tyler Huntley, stepping in for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, impressed against Cleveland.
His performance, combined with Campbell’s defensive impact, sets the stage for a high-stakes final week.
Campbell, however, isn’t just dwelling on uncertainties.
“There’s always an opportunity, and who knows, I mean… it might not happen; that’s part of it… it’s sports period.
It’s never over until it’s over,” he emphasized.
The Dolphins, now 8-8, need a win against the Jets in Week 18 and a Chiefs victory over Denver to secure the final AFC wild-card spot.
Campbell’s faith in Miami’s turnaround is well-placed.
But it all hinges upon whether the Chiefs will deliver for the Dolphins.
Calais Campbell is rooting for Patrick Mahomes.
“For the first time in my life, I’m about to be a big Chiefs fan for this week.
Huge Chiefs fan,” Campbell said after the game.
Why? you ask. Because Miami’s playoff hopes hinge not only on their next game but also on the Chiefs defeating the Denver Broncos.
However, with Kansas City already locking up the top seed.
speculation looms about whether Patrick Mahomes and other starters will even play.
Miami’s fate partly rests on the Chiefs’ choices. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Kansas City may rest Mahomes and other key players.
For Denver, fighting for their playoff spot, this could be a golden opportunity.
“I don’t know what Andy Reid is going to do with players,” Campbell admitted.
“But I know that in football, it’s nice to have a shot.”
While the Chiefs face a unique dilemma in week 18.
Resting starters could help avoid injuries .
but might allow a divisional rival like Denver to sneak into the playoffs.
Miami fans and Campbell are banking on Mahomes to rise to the occasion, even if it’s just briefly.
Mahomes’s brilliance has led Kansas City’s dominance this season, with a 13-3 record.
For the Dolphins, any Chiefs win will do, as long as they take care of business against the Jets.
Campbell’s optimism reflects Miami’s resilience.
From a 2-6 start to playoff contention, this season has showcased the team’s grit.
And Miami’s defense, featuring Jalen Ramsey and Emmanuel Ogbah, has been critical to this effort.
A Week 18 victory for Miami, coupled with a Chiefs win, would mark their third consecutive postseason appearance.
While the odds remain uncertain, Calais Campbell’s words resonate.
“If it does happen, look out. We’re coming.”
