Brittany Mahomes Makes 2 Demands From Her $180 Million Powerhouse Amid Patrick Mahomes’ Bid for WNBA

In the ever-twirling whirlwind of the sports scene, something super exciting is happening in Kansas City—seriously, thanks to none other than Patrick Mahomes.
And it’s a movie plot through and through! Think power couple vibes, big dreams, and a dash of friendly competition. You ready?
Alright, picture this! The Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes isn’t just slinging footballs and celebrating Super Bowl wins.
Instead, he’s flipping the script and hustling to bring a WNBA team to Kansas City.
Who knew the guy could multitask this well? Mahomes, who already co-owns the NWSL’s Kansas City Current with his wife, is all fired up about this.
Brittany Mahomes, a former soccer player, has been a part-owner of the Current since 2020.
But her husband joined the group and made it a “family affair” (as Brittany put it) in January 2023. “Brittany and the Longs (Angie & Chris) have done an incredible job building a world-class organization,” Mahomes said.
“I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.
” That day, as Mahomes hoped for more success for the Current, he too made history, becoming the first active NFL player with a stake in the NWSL.
Before Brittany Mahomes and Angie and Chris Long took advantage to secure an expansion team in 2020, the last time Kansas City had a team in the NWSL was in 2017 – two-time champions FC Kansas City.
But since the Current burst into the picture, they’ve been chasing their first championship.
And this season, they’re closer than ever. Or, at least, as close as they’ve been since 2022.
Needless to say, Brittany Mahomes, the queen bee behind the scenes (and a founding owner of the Current, no less), was right in the mix.
After the Current wrapped up their regular season with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, they sealed their berth in the playoffs as the No. 4 seed.
Taking on the No. 5 North Carolina Courage in the quarterfinals on Saturday, the team’s official handle shared the fixture on Instagram, featuring midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo.
Brittany popped onto her Instagram story and shared the Current’s post to rally the troops, writing, “Let’s go KC!! Show up Saturday and be loud!!!”
Speaking of the support the Kansas City Current has, that is one of the primary reasons Patrick Mahomes is confident a WNBA team would prosper in Missouri.
“It was cool that we were able to get this women’s soccer team here in the Current.
They’re going into the playoffs now, and you see the support that they have.
So let’s try to get a WNBA team in here as well [with] that same ownership group,” said Mahomes, as reported by ESPN.
“We want to get basketball to Kansas City in general and then WNBA… the city of Kansas City is going to come out, and they’re going to fill the stadium.
” And honestly, can we blame him? The Currents have been doing some serious winning, and the fans are all in—like, ear-splitting loud in their regular season games.
After Brittany Mahomes’ demands, there’s no doubt that the crowd will be just as loud in the quarterfinals, especially after one of their players received one of the most coveted awards of the season…
This year, The Current signed Malawian forward Temwa Chawinga on a two-year contract, and the 26-year-old started her NWSL career with a bang.
In 25 matches, she scored 20 goals and registered 6 assists, running away with the Golden Boot award (most goals in a season).
When her club shared this mega achievement on Instagram, writing, “GREATNESS. IS. GOLDEN,” Brittany cheered for Chawinga, commenting, “LETS GOOOOO!”
That said, it looks like the Kansas City Current is on the path to making history, as Patrick Mahomes said.
Referring to the ownership group consisting of his wife and the Longs, the Chiefs quarterback said, “They’ve done the Current the right way, and I want to continue to work with them to take that next step and get a WNBA team here.
” Well, it looks like they’re ready to up the game for Kansas City sports, and it’s a whole vibe.
Seriously, if they keep this up, the city might just turn into the sports capital of the universe!
Now, getting serious for a hot second, Mahomes isn’t just looking to expand his real estate portfolio of teams; he’s on a deeper mission.
All about showing his daughter, Sterling, that she can take on the world and crush her dreams.
“I want to continue to work in women’s sports as long as I can,” he said.
And honestly? That’s a sentiment we can totally rally behind!
Jayson Tatum wants to join Patrick Mahomes in first-active-player honors
Now, things are about to get spicy! This isn’t just a solo mission for the Chiefs quarterback.
There’s a bidding war brewing like a hot cup of coffee on a chilly day. In one corner, we got Patrick Mahomes.
But in the other corner? None other than Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum! That’d be Tatum, who’s eyeing a franchise in St. Louis.
If Tatum and the ownership group he’s joining manage to win the bid for a 16th WNBA team, he’ll become the first active NBA player to own a stake in the WNBA.
Per Sportico, “More than a dozen candidates are expected [to bid for another WNBA team], with some predicting that the ultimate winner could pay more than $200 million for the slot.
” Talk about a whopping price tag. Now, that is the real deal, not a simple monopoly game.
Cozying up with his pickleball team ownership, Jayson Tatum‘s now ready to dive into women’s basketball.
But here’s the kicker! The T-Mobile Center in Kansas City is just waiting for its chance to host a brand new franchise, which Mahomes hopes gives him a bit of an edge. Can you say drama?
