Patrick Mahomes avoids broken ankle but faces rehab on injury (updated).

The Kansas City Chiefs have already taken some tough injury news in Week 15 as they visit the Cleveland Browns to begin the final month of the regular season. However, they held their breath when their greatest fear of all potentially materialized on the field. when Patrick Mahomes went down after being hit by Browns defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson.

 

In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs and Mahomes were hoping to put together a dagger of a drive in order to extend a 14-point lead.

but Tomlinson ended up landing on Mahomes in such a way that his legs ended up tangled underneath him.

Mahomes was clearly in pain as he tried to get up and he required assistance to make his way back to the Kansas City sidelines there at Huntington Bank Stadium.

 

 

From there, Mahomes was being attended to by Chiefs’ trainers.

 

 

The good news is that Mahomes was able to walk around on the sidelines after taking the hit.

 

 

After suffering the scare of a potential injury for Mahomes, the Chiefs turned to Carson Wentz for the rest of the game as Mahomes was clearly in pain while limping on the Chiefs sidelines.

The good news is that Mahomes seemed to be available to the Chiefs if there had been some emergency situation.

or at least that was the information floated publicly following the game.

 

 

Despite the positive spin from the team’s radio announcers, the Chiefs were seen carting Patrick Mahomes off for further tests after the game.

Andy Reid also spoke to reporters after the game and provided some clarity saying.

“Patrick’s right ankle has been hurt.

It’s not broken but it’s sore.

He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go .

and then we’ll just have to see how he does down the road here.”

Mahomes himself finally spoke with reporters and provided some first-hand insight that largely said the same thing as Reid.

“It’s hard to say right now. I mean, there’s obviously still adrenaline rollin’ and usually it’s the day after that you get a good sense of it.

I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances.

but I thought the smart decison, I think we talked about, was to put Carson in.

He’s played a lot of football and he finished the game well,” he said.

Given the Chiefs have a short week before playing the Houston Texans on Saturday followed by another very short week.

when forced to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.

this is a horrible time for Mahomes to struggle with some sort of ongoing injury of any kind.

The Chiefs already lost Chamarri Conner to a concussion earlier in this game after watching the young corner leave in the first half.
