The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up the 2024 NFL regular season on Sunday and will now turn their full focus to the playoffs.
As the AFC’s No. 1 seed, they’ve locked up home-field advantage until the Super Bowl and earned a bye in the Wild Card round.
But while the Chiefs are sitting in a great spot,.
ESPN’s Adam Teicher raised some concerns for Patrick Mahomes .
and the team’s offense heading into the playoffs.
Pass protection has been a major issue for the Chiefs this season.
with their star quarterback being sacked more times than in any previous year of his career.
“The protection has improved since [Joe] Thuney moved from left guard to left tackle.
but Mahomes was still sacked 36 times this season, the most he has ever taken,” Teicher wrote.
As a result, Mahomes has been limited in his big pass plays.
“The Chiefs are still struggling to generate big pass plays due to Mahomes being forced to throw the ball quickly,” Teicher added.
“Right tackle Jawaan Taylor is the third-most penalized player in the league with 17 penalties.
and those penalties have been something the Chiefs have struggled to overcome this season.”
The Chiefs’ offense ranks middle of the pack in terms of offensive yards per game (327.6) and points scored per game (22.6).
However, Kansas City’s defense has stepped up big-time.
which is a major reason why they finished the regular season 15-2.
The defense ranks ninth in the NFL in yards allowed per game (320.6).
and fourth in points allowed per game (19.2).
If Mahomes can get better offensive line play to help be more efficient on offense.
there’s a great chance the Chiefs will become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
