Patrick Mahomes ignites Royals rally, taunts Yankees fan teammate in another nightmare.
.
.
In another unnecessary reminder that the city of Kansas City has everything a sports fan could want right now, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played the role of rally-starting Grimace at Wednesday’s Game 3 of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and KC Royals.
Mahomes was — as always — shown on the stadium scoreboard with the Royals trailing 2-0, following a Juan Soto sacrifice fly. Then — as always — an improbable rally began.
It was Adam Frazier, the Royals’ eight-hole hitter nubbing one into the area vacated by an increasingly rare shift.
Anthony Volpe had a shot to get him at first, but … didn’t.
Then it was Kyle Isbel, who worked Clarke Schmidt into a 3-2 count, threw the bat head at a baseball, and watched physics professors retire in unison as the ball somehow stayed fair. 2-1.
Naturally, Michael Massey capped things off by lining an RBI triple past the outstretched glove of Juan Soto.
As Massey slid into third and erupted, Mahomes unleashed the full fury of his celebrating prowess on Chiefs teammate Gehrig Dieter, clad in navy blue and interlocking NYs in the private Mahomes box.
Dieter is named after Lou Gehrig. His brother is named after Thurman Munson.
And, after this display, his son is going to be named Inconsiderate Friend.

Patrick Mahomes dooms Yankees in ALDS vs. KC Royals because he always gets what he wants
Dunno. Would’ve rather seen Taylor Swift in the box.
Our two cents.
Clay Holmes entered and recorded the third out of the inning, but not before every coin flip and bounce went Kansas City’s way, thanks in part (probably) to a fired-up Mahomes.
The Sports Gods just cannot stop beaming when they come in contact with this guy.
Home plate even got a little wider for the Royals’ relievers after this game-tying rally was ignited.
Fancy that.
Joe Burrow? Won’t work. Josh Allen? Don’t make me laugh. Derrick Henry? Only if you want to blow a four-touchdown lead.
Tom Brady? He’s not going to help the Yankees, either.
Best to just close your eyes and hope Mahomes goes home.
Who knows? Maybe he was in the replay booth for this ridiculous Gleyber call, too.
