Davante Adams Rumors: Saints ‘Most Aggressive’ Trade Suitor for WR amid Jets Buzz

The New Orleans Saints have been “the most aggressive” team in pursuing a trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers are also candidates for a potential trade, per Rapoport.

Adams reportedly requested a trade from the Raiders earlier this week.

He is set to miss a second straight game this weekend with a hamstring injury but will “likely” be available for Week 6, per Rapoport.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that Adams would prefer playing for the Jets or the Saints because he “ideally would like to play with a QB he knows.”

Rapoport wrote that Adams “most wants to play” with the Jets and his former teammate Aaron Rodgers, but the wideout also spent the 2022 season playing with Derek Carr in Las Vegas.

Carr recently said he would “obviously welcome” a reunion with Adams, and that he still considers the wideout one of his “best friends,” per ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.

Time may be running out if the Saints are looking to reunite Adams and Carr. Rapoport reported that Adams’ recovery from his hamstring injury is expected to speed up trade discussions starting on Monday.

“If a trade is going to get done this week, which is possible, Tuesday would be the deadline,” Rapoport wrote.

Schefter similarly reported on Saturday that trade talks “are expected to intensify next week.”

Rapoport noted the Raiders will be “content to wait it out” if unable to get their asking price.

That price, as reported by Schefter, includes at least a second-round pick alongside either another pick or a current player.

Adams’ salary will cost about $12.2 million against the cap following Week 5.

That would require the Saints, who are currently about $3 million below the ceiling per Over the Cap, to move contracts out or convince the Raiders to retain some salary in order to complete a trade.

However, Adams’ salary is non-guaranteed after the 2024 season, making him a candidate to be cut or restructured next spring and granting some flexibility for his future team going forward.

The 2-2 Saints face a tough path to a winning record with their next matchup coming against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.

General manager Mickey Loomis could be hoping that adding a six-time Pro Bowl wideout to Carr’s pass options could be key to helping New Orleans stay above .500.
