It’s a rare sight when Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce aren’t on the same page.
And even when they aren’t, they’ve shown the ability to still make magic happen.
like they did during KC’s second preseason game when Kelce ran the wrong route and Mahomes improvised,.
throwing him a behind-the-back pass that ended up going for a first down.
“Long story short, Travis didn’t run the route he was supposed to run.
and it was kind of a behind-the-back pass, kind of, because I was mad at him.
” Mahomes said at the time.
“He was supposed to run a flat route…and he doesn’t run it.
Out of spite, I threw a behind-the-back pass but now it’s going to be a highlight.”
The two weren’t in sync during one play in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Carolina Panthers.
and it showed when video started making the rounds on X of Kelce venting some frustration with Mahomes after a poorly placed throw fell incomplete.
Kelce’s frustration likely stemmed from the fact that he was wide open and Mahomes missed an easy play.
The All-Pro tight end could be heard on the broadcast yelling an expletive as he made his way back to the huddle.

The pair ended up figuring it out eventually as they combined for six catches on eight targets for 62 yards.
Mahomes himself finished with 269 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Gaffes like the one on Sunday are a rarity for Mahomes and Kelce.
who are widely considered to be one of the top QB-TE combos in NFL history.
In fact, they’ve combined for the most postseason touchdowns of any QB-TE duo in NFL history (16).
surpassing Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski back in January.
