Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts have made a habit of frustrating defenses, turning broken plays into highlight-reel moments.
Whether it’s Mahomes threading impossible passes or Hurts bulldozing defenders, stopping them has been a near-impossible task for opposing teams.
But one NFL Draft prospect is eager to change that narrative.
Pretty awful! This quarterback’s NFL combine performance is being called the worst ever.
Billy Bowman Jr.’s bold statement.
Oklahoma Sooners safety Billy Bowman Jr. made his intentions clear at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
delivering a bold statement about his defensive mindset.
“I want to suffocate offenses,” Bowman said.
“Offense is easy to play.
You know your play.
You know where the ball is going.
All you got to do is get the ball, make somebody miss.”
Bowman, a dynamic playmaker in Oklahoma’s secondary, believes the real challenge lies in playing defense.
“Defense, it brings so much more of a challenge.
So it’s so much more fun. But my goal is just to suffocate offenses.
I don’t want to give them nothing.
I want to hold them to zero to three.
When the ball is in the air, it’s mine.
If they hand the ball off, I want to rally to the ball as quick as possible.
My mentality is suffocation.”
Bowman, a rising star ahead of 2025 NFL Draft.
Bowman’s confidence is backed by impressive stats.
Over his college career, he racked up 199 total tackles, 11 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns.
His ability to cover both wide receivers and tight ends, combined with his speed and athleticism, makes him a versatile weapon in the secondary.
At the combine, Bowman showcased his raw athleticism, running a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and putting up 17 reps on the bench press.
ESPN’s Field Yates noted that Bowman“helped himself a lot” with his performance.
while NFL.com’s Chad Reuter described him as “a bulked-up corner moving fluidly through drills.”
While his 5-foot-9, 192-pound frame might be a concern for some teams.
his playmaking ability and aggressive mindset could make him a steal in the later rounds of the draft.
As draft day approaches, Bowman’s bold proclamation will certainly be put to the test.
Wherever he lands it is clear that he’s ready to make life difficult for NFL offenses.
