ESPN colleagues Shannon Sharpe and Kirk Hersbstreit could be headed into some beef following Sharpe clapping back at the latter’s comments about ‘First Take.’
Herbstreit criticized Ohio State’s detractors during their playoff win over Tennesee on Saturday night, ripping the people who called for Ryan Day to be fired.
The ESPN analyst, a former Buckeye, also went after said show for speculating over Day’s future after Ohio State lost to Michigan for the fourth time in four consecutive years.
“The lunatic fringe at Ohio State is as powerful as anywhere in the country. It used to be eight to 10, I think it’s grown now to about 15 to 20. I’m sure they’ll be happy tonight, fired up about what the team did, but God forbid they lose to Oregon. They’ll want to fire [Day] again,” he said during the Buckeyes’ win.
“First Take tried to fire him. They thought he was done, so I’ll be excited to see what they talk about on Monday after this performance. They had him out, trying to find replacements. But here he is, he still has his hat on. He’s still coaching.”
Shannon Sharpe Was Not Happy With Kirk Hersbstreit
Sharpe, who joined ‘First Take’ after leaving FS1 last year, took umbrage at Herbstreit’s statement and issued a warning while on the show on Monday.
“If we’re going to be on the same team, if we’re gonna work for the same network, don’t do that,” he said.
“Kirk, Chris Fowler, I promise you, if you ever mention any platform that I’m on again talking about ‘I wonder what they’re going to say as negativity,’ I promise you, ESPN ain’t got enough bosses to keep me off y’all for what I’m going to say… don’t play with me.”
Herbstreit had not responded to Sharpe as of this writing. Whether he does or not remains to be seen.
Skip Bayless Refused To Apologize For Insensitive Damar Hamlin Tweet And Shannon Sharpe Refused To Show Up For ‘Undisputed’ Today (VIDEO)
Shannon Sharpe was not in the mood to hear from his co-host on Tuesday.
Skip Bayless upset everybody on social media with his insensitive post regarding the Damar Hamlin situation. The Buffalo Bills safety was dealing with a cardiac arrest situation and the only thing Skip seemed to care about was the two teams finishing the game.
On Tuesday, Shannon Sharpe was notably absent from the set as Skip had to conduct the show by himself.
“Obviously, my partner Shannon Sharpe is not here today,” Bayless told viewers. “I look forward to seeing him tomorrow.”
Instead of apologizing for what he said, Skip said in another tweet that he was sorry if people “misunderstood” his point.
“His health is all that matters,” Bayless wrote. “Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him & will continue to.”
Bayless’ Monday night tweet received immediate backlash, with NFL players, including Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner and free agent wideout Dez Bryant, firing back at the Fox host.
His never-ending saga of always wanting to get engagement and ratings has backfired tremendously on him this time.
As for as Hamlim, CPR was performed on him on the field after his collapse. His heartbeat was restored on the field before he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment.
The University of Cincinnati Medical Center did not anticipate making any statement early Tuesday morning.
We continue to keep him in our prayers.
