Josh Brolin Is “212 Pounds of Manly Priest” in the Upcoming “Knives Out” Film

On the latest episode of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert welcomed the acclaimed actor Josh Brolin, who stars in the much-anticipated film Knives Out. Josh plays a priest in the movie—a role that both excites and intimidates him.

Stephen enthusiastically introduced the teaser trailer of Knives Out, which features Josh alongside an all-star cast including Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, and Daniel Craig. Josh shared that playing a priest was a big challenge because he had never considered such a role before. Interestingly, it was his wife who reminded him that he once said he wanted to play a televangelist or a priest, and now that wish had come true.

“This role scared me wildly,” Josh admitted. However, he joked that unlike Andrew Scott’s “hot priest” in Fleabag, he’s just “212 pounds of manly priest”—a solid, masculine spiritual leader.

Stephen asked if Josh had gotten any advice from Andrew Scott about being a “hot priest,” to which Josh replied that he greatly admires Andrew, who recently did a brilliant one-man show. Josh also shared a funny story about Andrew often sleeping between scenes, which amused the entire cast.

The conversation became even lighter when Stephen mentioned the long video messages Josh often sends him, including clips of him driving through the desert. Josh said he has plenty of free time and enjoys sending such videos, prompting Stephen to jokingly call him a “video message slut.”

Josh also revealed that he plays the drums quite well and can also play guitar, adding some musical flair to the show.

Towards the end, Josh briefly talked about another upcoming movie, Weapons, releasing on Friday, but he couldn’t reveal much due to confidentiality. Stephen noted that although the filming wrapped some time ago, he was just happy to have Josh on the show.
