In a heartwarming announcement that has sent waves of joy through the hockey world, NHL legend Sidney Crosby has revealed that he and longtime partner Kathy Leutner are expecting their first child — a baby boy — this December.
The notoriously private Pittsburgh Penguins captain made the rare personal reveal in a joint statement with Leutner, describing it as the “greatest assist” of his life.
“We’re so grateful and excited to welcome our son later this year,” Crosby said. “It’s a feeling unlike anything I’ve ever experienced — even the Stanley Cup can’t compare to this.”
👶 A Name Full of Meaning
The couple also shared the meaningful name they’ve chosen for their son: Sebastian Raymond Crosby.
Sebastian, a name of Greek origin meaning “venerable” or “revered”, was chosen for its elegance and strength.
Raymond is a touching tribute to Crosby’s late grandfather, Raymond Leutner, who played a guiding role in Kathy’s life and shared a deep appreciation for family and sportsmanship.
“We wanted a name that held personal meaning, something that honored the people who shaped us,” said Leutner. “Raymond was always encouraging, kind, and full of quiet strength — qualities we hope our son will carry forward.”

🏒 From Captain to Dad
Known as one of the most accomplished and humble players in hockey history, Sidney Crosby has earned every accolade in the game — Olympic gold medals, three Stanley Cups, and the respect of teammates and opponents alike. But now, he’s entering what he calls the “most important role of my life”: being a dad.
Close friends say Crosby is already preparing like the seasoned pro he is — reading parenting books, learning how to swaddle, and even designing a tiny Penguins onesie.
“He’s calm, focused, and incredibly thoughtful — he’ll be an amazing father,” said a teammate. “He treats fatherhood the way he treats hockey — all heart.”
❤ Fans and Teammates Send Love
As news spread, fans flooded social media with messages of congratulations and heartfelt excitement.
“From Sid the Kid to Sid the Dad — what a beautiful chapter ahead!”
“Little Crosby on the way — the future of hockey just got brighter.”
Even NHL stars, coaches, and sports legends weighed in with warm words for the Penguins captain and his growing family.
🕊 A Season of New Beginnings
With the baby due in December, Crosby is preparing for a holiday season unlike any other — one filled with lullabies instead of locker rooms, and the first cries of a newborn instead of the roar of the crowd.
In closing his announcement, Crosby simply said:
“This is everything I’ve ever hoped for — love, family, and a future to share it with.”
Congratulations, Sid & Kathy — and welcome to the world, baby Sebastian Raymond Crosby. The hockey world can’t wait to meet its newest little star. 💙🏒
