The SF Giants took the first game of the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night by a score of 5-0. They look to string together a three-game winning streak behind two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell.

Snell’s first two starts in a Giants uniform have not gone as planned. He has yielded 10 earned runs through just seven innings of work. That said, the lefty pitcher has been a bit of a slow starter throughout his career.

Of course, Snell did not have a normal spring training given that he signed so late in the offseason. It is likely that this is affecting his performance, but the Giants hope that he is able to get back on track against the Diamondbacks.

On offense, Jung Hoo Lee has a 10-game hitting streak going after collecting two more hits on Thursday night. He has 15 hits in 41 at-bats during that time while raising his batting average to .282 on the year.

The lefty hitter grinds out at-bats and puts the ball in play at a high rate. In a lot of ways, he has an old school approach to hitting and that is a refreshing sight. One area that he seemingly excels in is being able to hit the ball the other well. The 25-year-old hits the ball where it is pitched and that has led to a lot of hits to the left side in the early going. He is getting a scheduled day off on Friday.

In a weird coincidence, Snell will be facing off against Jordan Montgomery. Both pitchers were represented by agent Scott Boras and neither saw the type of lucrative contract they had expected when the offseason began. This led to Montgomery even firing Boras. He is slated to make his first start with the Diamondbacks.
