Caitlin Clark got 66 of 67 WNBA Rookie of the Year votes. Here’s who got the other one.
INDIANAPOLIS — It’s official: Caitlin Clark is the WNBA Rookie of the Year by a landslide.
But it wasn’t a unanimous decision. The Indiana Fever star got 66 of the 67 votes for Rookie of the Year. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese got the other vote.
The voters are made up of two local journalists from each WNBA market and a collection of national WNBA writers, reporters, and broadcasters. With 24 local market voters this season, it means there were 43 national voters. The WNBA does not release the voters’ decisions.
Every season, it’s not unusual for Rookie of the Year to be either unanimous or near-unanimous. Fever center Aliyah Boston was a unanimous choice for ROY in 2023, the Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard received 53 of 56 votes in 2022, and Michaela Onyenwere received 47 of 49 votes in 2021.
With a historic rookie class, both in terms of talent and in fan engagement, there was more discussion about the rookie of the year award between Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. Both broke league records: Clark broke the rookie scoring record, the rookie 3-point record, and the league single-season assists record (to name a few), while Reese broke the league consecutive double-doubles record and the single-season rebounding record.
Clark led the league in assists per game at 8.4, while Reese led in rebounds at 13.1.
Clark pulled away from the competition following the Olympic break, as the Indiana Fever were surging to a playoff spot. Reese’s Sky struggled at the same time, losing 13 of their last 16 games of the season to miss the playoffs. Reese was out for the final five games of the season, as well, as she had wrist surgery.
