Chiefs HC Andy Reid delivers promising injury updates on RB Isiah Pacheco, DE Charles Omenihu

The Kansas City Chiefs could get some reinforcements on both sides of the ball over the course of the next several weeks.

Speaking to reporters ahead of practice on Thursday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid delivered some injury updates on a pair of players. He started with RB Isiah Pacheco, who has been on injured reserve since Week 3 with a fractured fibula at his ankle joint. He was expected to miss anywhere from six to eight weeks.

“He’s getting there, but he’s doing fantastic,” Reid said of Pacheco. “I mean, he’s really doing well, but we just, you know, between the trainers and doctors and all that’s got a that’s out of my hands there. But he’s getting there, he’s making great progress.”

Pacheco is just around six weeks removed from the surgery to repair his injury, so he realistically has a few more to go with his initial recovery timeline. He has been in the building. He has also posted occasional updates on social media showing him working his way back through the rehab process.

Similarly, Reid was asked about DE Charles Omenihu, who remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from last season’s ACL injury. He mentioned that Omenihu is in the same type of boat, awaiting clearance from doctors before he can return to action. Both players, Reid says, are getting closer to making their return.

“Charles (Omenihu) is doing a good job, working his tail off,” Reid said. “Again, the surgeons that do their jobs, they have the feel of it, and so they’re constantly evaluating these guys. And you know, when they’re when they’re ready to go, they’re ready to go. I mean, that’s that’s a look at. But he’s getting closer — to answer both your questions — both of them (Isiah Pacheco and Charles Omenihu) are (getting closer).”

It might not be Week 9 or Week 10, but the Chiefs could be eyeing both their players making a return to action for the Week 11 clash with the Buffalo Bills, a game that could determine the No. 1 seed in the AFC conference.
