For one reason or another, playing in Florida has been a tough task for the Giants in recent seasons. However, they went 3-3 in their most recent road trip. They won the series against the Marlins and lost the series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Webb is coming off of his best start of the year. He yielded just one earned run in seven frames against the Rays last week. Overall, he has a 3.80 ERA in four outings.
Patrick Bailey will be behind the dish for Webb. While Bailey’s defense continues to grade out favorably, his bat is quietly off to a nice start as well.
He has a solid .765 OPS through 51 plate appearances in 2024. And, there have been notable improvements in both his walk rate (11.8 percent) and strikeout rate (23.5 percent). Walking at a high rate was one way in which the switch-hitter generated value in the minors and it looks like it is beginning to take shape in the majors.
The Giants will face off against righty pitcher Ryne Nelson. Nelson has a 5.27 ERA in 2024 but has pitched through a lot of traffic as he has issued five walks and allowed 17 hits in just 13.2 frames.
